Just my opinion, feel free to disagree. I don't think there's anything wrong with how the police handled the situation. In all fairness, they are doing their jobs. They are here to keep the peace, not to make friends or give customer service, that's what most Singaporeans need to realize. Police Officers who are calm and nice when asking us questions are definitely better, but in the video, that's how they were at the start. Telling him its for Verification. Stated in Section 65: Police officers may arrest any person who is accused of committing, or who commits in the view or presence of the police officer, a non-arrestable offence - *if* the person refuses to give his or her name and residential address when demanded by the police officer. (IC/Driving License/Passport) for instance. If ya'll think the officers should be nicer and explain to the civilian why he needs to produce his IC and etc, keep this in mind, 1)They are doing their jobs 2)They have every right to ask for your IC without you asking why, and you need to give it to them. 3)It was a police report investigation 4)Dude was being super uncooperative 5)They waited for quite sometime and was being patient at the start and this guy just decide to play a whole pingpong game with them. 6)YOU ARE THE SUSPECT/PERSON IN CUSTODY/AT THE CRIME SCENE. Who are YOU to ask questions when it is THEIR job to ask the questions. And if you think you can do a better job, here's something to do. ~Apply to join the SPF~ Since you can do a better job, why not do it, prove it and show it? Work your ass up, become the chief and train them better. Talk is cheap in this generation. Put your money where your mouth is at. Go do a better job, cause trust me, there are MANY people like him who will question the police officers when they are just doing their job, who are rude to the officers and what not. And in time you will get sick of it too. It's not that hard to just cooperate and go on with your daily life. just do it and fuck off, simple as that.
@wrestletales2 жыл бұрын
It's more of not being dumb. You have to question police and ask them why. The idea of "respect" should never exist between public and cops. Not that public shouldn't respect cops, but they shouldn't blindly obey them. That creates corruption. Questioning is right.
@patrickjeow2 жыл бұрын

I think the Singapore Police is very very very nice to him already. In the US, he is already pinned down. Well... He can choose not to show his ID in the US, but the police is likely to arrest him for some other reason (i.e., disrespectful to authorities, harm to public). The US police will not go through all the bs to tell you and give you warning, the act based on their judgement. I think this Confederate ginger (weird that he chose this name... does he know what that means) must probably get his US freedom idea from Netflix. Never lived or traveled to the US. I learned living in the US, I wouldn't want to pull this with a US police officer. They might shoot. For real.

@razorblade67462 жыл бұрын
Unlike underfunded corrupt police forces (The examples I shan't list for controversial reasons), there in Singapore their police force is not to be meddled with. When asked to produce identification (Identification card, passport, license etc), there is no such thing as "I am protected by my rights to privacy" or "I invoke the 5th and wish to speak to a lawyer". When questioned or approached, it is expected of the approached to cooperate with the police. This *"no mess up no mess around"* attitude in Singapore is what made its police force so respected and formidable. And is also why their country is one of the safest in the world.

As an ex nsf PO I can understand the Policeman's frustration. I won't say every case is like this, but there will be usu. 1 or 2 people like this, who are just out to get a reaction or believe that SPF should treat them like gold. Just remember these officers work long shifts and they have to deal with this kind of people. tbh yes, it could have been handled better; but i cannot fault the officers for what they did. It was honestly an alright response. Although it would have been better to deescalate the situation. Try to calm the guy down, explain to him that his particulars is required in this case to lodge a report, and to verify his identity. If he continues to be resistant to the idea of identifying himself then move to the next step. Its best that the officers to not say anything after they failed to get his particulars. Yes, i do believe that the cheers guy did succeed in infuriating some of the officers. That being said I do think that it was handled professionally enough for the situation. Its qt obvious that the guy just wants to screw over these officers for some sort of power trip gratification. Cheers guy states that he has seen articles of SPF corruption, which to my knowledge was not a thing. Cheers guy began the complaint about a drunken PO that apparently was rude to him(?) but later changed his story to racism. Clearly he has a vendetta against SPF for whatever reason. Policemen and women need to be stern to do their job. They are here to do their job, not be your friend. Need to be firm with these kinds of ppl, no mentioned entertaining them, if i were the officer. Just ask him to close the shop n let him handle the losses to keep his mouth shut.

Seems like majority of the people here, including the producer of this video still do not know the grey area of this Section 65 and when this regulation actually contradicts itself when there is an inaccurate assumption by the officer if they judge the culprit and victim wrongly. Arrest on refusal to give name and residence to police officer 65.-(1) A police officer may arrest any person who is accused of committing, or who commits in the view or presence of the police officer, a non-arrestable offence if, on the demand of the police officer, the person refuses to give his or her name, residential address or unique identification number. [Act 5 of 2024 wef 31/05/2024] (2) A police officer may arrest such a person who gives a residential address outside Singapore, or a name, residential address or unique identification number which the police officer has reason to believe is false.
