Digital technologies have much potential for helping children think: enhancing how they perceive, attend to, notice, learn and remember events, people, data and other information. But how do we make it happen - especially against the backdrop of chatGPT which increasingly can do the thinking for them? I will talk about my research designing innovative tools that can extend how children think when they learn beginning with how we were able to transform learning through the arrival of ubiquitous computing. My approach is to make interfaces interactive; steering, scaffolding and challenging children to think differently and creatively. In my lecture, I will describe how we can open up children's minds more through designing technology with them in mind.
Professor Yvonne Rogers is internationally renowned for her work in human-computer interaction (HCI), interaction design and ubiquitous computing. Yvonne’s research focusses on the design and development of novel technology for children and how they can support learning, wellbeing and social connectedness.
