In this episode of Activist Playbook, VICE meets Judith Rizzio, a life long activist and fashion lover, who shares her experiences of creating empowerment using clothing. She runs her own company, Out of Our Closet, which is a sliding scale consulting service that guides clients towards accessible and sustainable fashion. Many of her clients are older women who are seeking to find confidence.

At a time when external certainty is a very flimsy thing, the kind of confidence and self-love she exudes can be very inspiring. Having been growing up in Florida, during my college years in the early 90's, it was the NORM for us young women to hit up the thrift stores for clothes. Men's oversized blazers, jeans, overalls, flannel shirts & railroad caps were the "in" thing. And good lord, once you found a great shop...it was like hitting the lottery! 😉 This story reminded me of those times in school & how clothes can really transform you. She looks good too for 65.😉 That yellow coat was awesome! I would ❤ to browse her collection as well as that store they went to. Because it seems nowadays, you're hard pressed to find a reasonably priced thrift/consignment store with great clothing!🤷

I got out of gym class in highschool by volunteering my time doing vintage fashion shows through Goodwill! Learned more about myself and my passions by doing this. So thankful. My Nana helped me learn to sew. She was a professional seamstress from the 1910's through to the 70's. I love wearing 1930's-1956. I wore 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's for real so lol I have no Identity with that.
