I started studying this way during my third semester. I had horrible grades. My first three exams: 56, 68, 60. Next grade, which I needed a good grade on to keep me from flunking out of nursing school, was a 98. I totally was in love with a girl I had met, that showed me how to do this. I had a nursing instructor actually accuse me of cheating on the next test. I swear I thought she was kidding. I didn't know how to respond to her. But I finished out school with A's and B's. Wish I had known this from the beginning.

I start nursing school in August. Finding you on the Internet was amazing. I'm going to take every single one of your advice and apply them in all my classes. You are going to be my new Internet best friend. With your help, I feel confident that I will ace nursing school and becoming an amazing nurse. At first I was worried and happy at the same time when I got accepted in nursing school. I was worried because I haven't been in school in 5 years, I am a foreigner (English is my 3rd languages), I have 2 kids. Then I found you and I started gaining confident in myself. Now, I can totally say that I can do it and it will all be possible because of the valuable info you are providing to all the nursing students and nurses out there. Thanks you so much for taking the time in your busy schedule to post these videos. You are truly a great person, you are a God sent. May God bless you and provide you with a great health so you can continue to help those around you. I'm so greatful for all your insights. Once again thank you so much. Phara

Caroline-the time has come to thank you... even though I’m not starting the nursing program until January, I’ve been watching your videos for months! I didn’t discover your study technique until after I finished A & P 2, but I decided to try it for my last pre-req, Microbiology. It is AMAZING! I just got a 100 in both lecture and lab! Granted, I got 100 in all my A & P classes too but I put SO MUCH more time into making that happen. This brain hacking thing is for real! I am so grateful! Once I did your prep methods for lectures, all I had to do was type myself a study guide with important stuff from the lectures, then I made pretty and colorful visually stimulating handmade single sheet study guides (I write super neat and can do it very tiny with Staedtler fineliner pens-6 chapters on the front of one piece of paper), then I fold these up to fit in my pocket notebook and pull them out literally every time I have to wait in line for something. Your prep method combined with my study method is absolutely foolproof! Thank you a million times! I can’t wait to do it in nursing school

How thoughtful of you Caroline! I'm so glad that I found your insightful way of looking at how to study at this stage of my student journey. I created this elaborate method of dry erase board usage, flash cards upon flashcards, and gobs of reading to get the less than desired results that you did. Time to evolve again. MY COHORT is up in 3 weeks (ADN), and you blessed me not a moment too soon... uncanny how I've been somewhat reverse studying through NCLEX questions already too. I will (to a T) follow your advice and see how I fare! I'm nervous and practically study thin air right now (well, okay pertinent stuff) and I don't just want to pass- I want to KILL IT! I just passed my entrance exam for nursing school a month ago and i am going to start school in two weeks, i am beyond excited, nervous and a little scared but i am up for the challenge! I'm currently living (and obvi studying) outside of the US but i am planning on moving back after taking the NCLEX here and i am really scared of said exam, but i think i might invest on one of those review study books and fish around the internet of situation based question and what not. BTW buying a planner sounds like a good idea especially to keep in check what's more important and not end up splurging money on things i get excited over and just admire from a far. Thank you so much Caroline for this videos that I watched many of them. I am currently a Nursing Student in LPN program and I started on Sept 2014 and passed all my classes with success but when it came to pharmacology, I got totally lost and failed that class :( I've been so sad and devastated since then, but I have a chance to go back in a few months to repeat the course and finish up which this is a great opportunity for me now to watch your videos and get all the tips you gave and get the books you mentioned to study to get ready. I've been watching your videos and made me happy that I cried and that I am not a only one struggling :( it is really tough and lot of hard work and time you talked about it. I am in that situation you talked about. I know all the hard work will pay off one day. Thank you so much for this awesome videos and tips. I am so grateful for all the resources and time you put in to this videos. This is great and I never subscribed anything in you tube but when I found you by searching how to become successful in nursing school, I saw you and I am so glad to find you and listen to you and understand and know that I am not a only one. I hope one day I will be a great nurse like you and get my RN and continue my education. Love you so much! Please keep those videos coming:)

Heeeeey! How crazy that I ran into this video! I start the nursing program at Fayetteville State University next Tuesday! We had orientation yesterday and I'm so nervous. We actually got a free copy of your book during orientation. How exciting! I know I can do it but I'm so scared. This is one of the most positive nursing videos I've run into on KZbin. I've been watching YT videos about nursing school for the past two weeks and all I've heard is how hard it is and how you'll have no life and other not so positive things. Yes, I know it WILL be hard and I know I'll have to put in a lot of work but it feels good to actually hear something positive for a change. Anyway, thanks for making this video.

Caroline-I love your videos! I just discovered your neat brain hacking study method- right after finishing A & P 2! I got over 100 in both A & P Lecture and Lab, but I’ve noticed that making my cards takes up SOOO much time, so I’m giving your method a try right now. I’m on the break between semesters now, but I’m preparing for Microbiology by familiarizing myself with the details of DNA transcription/translation, Krebs Cycle and Electron Transport Chain, Fluid/Electrolyte Balance, and a few other topics my professor suggested. Since I’m not in class yet, I’m replacing the lecture part with a KZbin lecture. It’s working so well! Thank you!!! I just ordered both of your books too!

Thank you so much for posting this video! I finally finished it and am very interested in using some of these tips. I'm already in my last semester of my nursing program and have been a straight B student so far. It would be nice to finally see some A's so I will definitely try out your study tips. A few things is that unfortunately, my school does not allow us to record lectures which is too bad. Our class is also very "catty" and competitive so it deters students from asking questions. When the "smart" students that sit up front ask questions, many students mumble under their breath, "Can we move on?" or "So and so ALWAYS asks a question." There is a lot of negativity in the classroom and I try my best to ignore them but it does keep me from asking questions in class. I focus a lot on my own learning and pay attention to the professors. I will check out those audios you posted too! Thanks again Caroline and look forward to seeing you on here again! (P.S. I would like to request nursing content on psych nursing please as it seems like a complete different world from med-surg!)

You always have the best advice! I love the positive attitude! It's something I've always tried to do myself so it's nice to see other people who not only use their mind to study, but also to manifest goals and maintain a positive being. I just tried the bold words/ definition/ diagram technique for my next pharm test! It is so much more efficient that way! Thanks:)

After seeing this excellent video. One other tip I recommend on top of underlining headlines, bold words and notes on the side of a page, is to study before hand the prefixes, roots and suffixes for learning medical terminology. If a person runs into a word and does not know exactly what it means, they can have an idea. It also helps in augmenting overall vocabulary building and comprehension. Example: Angiogram- Angi(o) = blood vessel, gram = record

Thanks for this great video. I passed Anat & Phys by doing a lot of the same things you're talking about. I recorded every lecture & listened to them in the car ALL THE TIME. I did my best to read the chapter before class because you tend to soak it up a lot better. I also watched A TON of YOU TUBE videos on subjects I just wasn't gaining a deep understanding of, and that helped soooooo much. A lot of people don't understand that you have to approach studying with an active & positive frame of mind or you won't stick with it or learn as much. If you find something doesn't work for you scrap it and find something else. Making flash cards takes too much time, so I made my own chapter study guides with what I thought was the most important/relevant info. I found that studying with ONE other person NOT A GROUP was most beneficial and we made it fun. I remember trying to learn more about bile and I just couldn't grasp what the point of it was, so I looked it up on google for days looking at different explanations and the best one by far was that said it was like soap. Search and search for what makes sense to you. I'm not in nursing school yet, but I'm certain that when I am, employing the extra's you're talking about will make a huge difference.

+andraacram I almost forgot another thing that I saw other do was take pictures of the board instead of writing notes because it allows to you actually listen and take in what the professor is saying instead of worrying if you're able to write down everything that they are. If it's death by powerpoint they usually have those posted somewhere.

ugomma Hi Love!!I am so glad that you found the video! And also happy to hear that you liked it! That is so nice that your prereqs are done... now just preparation time!! For the summer, I definitely have to recommend my book (sorry to plug it... but I believe in it so much :) How to Succeed in Nursing School. Here is a link: goo.gl/MvtTK1 I would also recommend about 1-2 month prior to the start of classes getting the NCLEX review book: Mosbys NCLEX RN - amzn.to/1Ov58aZ And start reviewing questions in the fundamentals section... unless your programs starts with a different topic (maybe call the school & see what the itinerary is). Lastly, about 1-2 months prior, I would get the pharmacology made insanely easy book: amzn.to/1bKgvuG and start going through that as well :) You will really be ahead of the game ;) Let me know if you need anything else! xoxo! - Caroline

Hi Caroline, thank you for sharing your value information. I am feeling better now AFTER ALL YOUR STUDY TIPS..I am studying for my exit exam and I am a little overwhelm since our school nursing exit exam is called adaptive quizzing nclex rn exam, it is so much of questions that i did practiced and all the information that i learned its all mixed up on my head...

i think I may add the pre-class tips to what I already do, but I need to read and take notes as well. At my Nursing school we are basically expected to be able to be quizzed on the topic the moment we enter the class on the day its being taught. lecture is basically a review and helps us to hone in on what we need to focus on.

Hey guys Caroline is 100% correct. I used this process twenty years ago and highlighted my text book. I worked full time and found that the review book sped up the study process by condensing the reading to what was relevant. Get the NCLEX review and use it now! When I graduated from nursing school I did not utilize any of the NCLEX courses or class reviews. I felt I have been reviewing for four years. I passed the NCLEX the first time with 74 questions. I thought omg I have I done so poorly that it just stopped at 74? No on the contrary I was doing so well it stopped at 74. Follow the tips and you will succeed. God bless.

I'm going to be a sophomore in college but I don't have a major yet. I've never really found a good way to study and I've always just studied different ways or not study at all, which I know is bad. I'm really wanting to go to medical school or PA school or maybe even a post-bacc nursing program so studying is something that needs to happen. I'm enrolled in a really challenging freshman level chemistry course this coming academic year and it has an 80% fail rate. Knowing I need to ace this course I emailed my professor for a syllabus and got the textbook before summer break started, i also got an MCAT general chemistry review book to supplement the material. I've been trying for almost 2 weeks now to find a good study method to help and I haven't been keeping up with my studying, when I do end up studying I usually have to rip up the page of notes I made in my notebook. I really am hoping that this method works and I'm really excited to give it a shot. Thank You for the geat and inspirig video knowing that you got average grades before nursing school! Trevor

Hi Caroline, I love the tips you gave especially the underlining your textbook. I do this and my dad says why is there so many pencil marks? Haha Do you think two NCLEX Review books is enough to use for during NS and for the actual NCLEX preparation? Do you also think that it is really important to have the most current and up to date NCLEX books for studying or can we use slightly older books from 2010 and 2011? Thank you!
@empowern9 жыл бұрын
chempanda Hi love!! My Dad said the same thing :D It probably is ok to use slightly older books... I just get nervous that things have changed & that it might contain incorrect information. But the changes of that are slim. So I always tell students that if finances are an issue, use what you have... but if you can... I would get the most up to date one :) I hope this helps!! xoxo - Caroline
