Love this song!! So smoooooth. This was just 3 years after "Had to Be." Cliff rockin' the short hair! He got it chopped off literally right before filming the video.

(2:02)...... - ...Empress, Cliff is a BIG, BIG deal.....He's been performing for DECADES (since 1958!), and is the most charted UK Male Singer EVER! ...He's up there with Engelbert, Tom Jones, Lulu, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra....he....is *HUGE!* - ...BUT, In America!? ..not so much....he had a #6 Pop hit (Sept., 1976) with "Devil Woman", Two #10 Pop hits in 1980 ("We Don't Talk Anymore" & "Dreaming"), a #12 Pop hit in 1981 with Olivia ("Suddenly"), and........................that's IT....... - ...this tune was from his 1998 Album in the UK only....this tune pulled a 'Donny Osmond', not telling anyone who 'Cliff' was, so he could chart on the Pop charts, because he got tired of being thought of as 'Adult Contemporary'..... - ...and, it worked, because he hit #10 Pop in the UK! ...SO, the 'drip' WORKED! In America, Cliff actually had 9 Top 40 hits, and hit the Hot 100 19 times (on Billboard). "Suddenly" only made it to #20, not #12. Should've been way higher. And to further embellish your comment about Cliff first releasing this song under an assumed name to fool the radio stations: He was rightly upset when the song got a great response...until they found out it was him, and then a lot of stations refused to play it because they thought he was too old! So what if he'd been performing for 40 years by that time? Good music is good music. It's nice that he got the last laugh by hitting #10.

😂Empress you got me in here singing a Suddenly duet with you. This is a good song and I’m surprised that it didn’t cross over to the U.S. It’s a good r&b vibe. Surprised it hasn’t at least been covered here in the states.

Cliff Richards success and longevity in the music industry is remarkable to say the least, as he had a number of big-hits with English instrumental rock group" the shadows"( definitely Worth a listen too) going all the way back to 1958 before the Beatles were even famous..I find it surprising that he didnt quite have the same success and popularity in the states as he did elsewhere considering the amount of decades he performed for as a solo artist and alongside many other notable musicians and singers( however) i thoroughly enjoyed this one 👍
