I think Monty is a good coach, who got put in a bad spot with players who don’t fit his scheme. In that same breath I have to say he has been flip flopping lines far to much, and there has been arguments that I believe were correct about him running the guys to hard in that miracle season causing them to fall flat in the first round. I’m sure he will land somewhere, and as a bruins fan I wish him nothing but the best. Hopefully this lights a fire under the boys.

Interesting first pod to watch as a hurricanes fan lol.. don't think I'll be tuning in again. Gahdamn

Same. I’ve listened to them for a bit due to some interviews with players I was interested in but their Canes hate is absurd. Especially for being Bruins fans who are known for winning a round or two in the playoffs but no cup. Pretty sure they had Jarvy on too. Hope he doesn’t come back on

As a fellow Mainer, I will always have respect and gratitude for Monte for captaining the Black Bears to the championship in that most glorious '93 season; it was a thing of beauty and a joy to behold. Also, I believe that Krecji doesn't come back for the '23 season without the firing of Cassidy and I believe that Monte is responsible for the career seasons posted by the likes of Freddy, Coyle, Zacha, Debrusk, Geekie, etc. that have been integral to the B's success over the past 2 years. However, Monte's fingerprints are clearly all over this team's failures both in the playoffs and this season (albeit this season is a disgusting smear of prints from the front office all the way down to the players which, frankly, rivals my phone screen). His approach to line management falls somewhere on a spectrum between profoundly ADHD addled kindergartener and long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Monte is a good coach, and it's obvious that the big, slow roster assembled by Sweeny doesn't match the speed and skill Monte's system requires , but I'm struggling to understand how a good coach fails to recognize this dissonance and adjust his scheme to match the strengths of his players and mask their weaknesses. It seems like he spent these 20 games just trying to jam square pegs into round holes. What really killed it for me was sending down Poitras and calling him out for needing more hustle and better production when he was the the ONLY forward consistently creating scoring chances for his linemates who consistently failed to finish. Every time Poitras and Pasta overlapped their shifts those two created dangerous situations and anxiety for the opposition, and every time Monte hit frappe on his line blender it failed to produce that combination. Monte was supposed to be good with the young talent (unlike Cassidy) but it seems like the bottom floor is about 25 years old. Last season he treated Merculov with outright antipathy- sticking a smaller kid whose game is based on offensive skill, on the 4th line for 4 games and then kicking him back down to the American. It was like he wanted to put him in a position to fail and then point to the failure as proof that he didn't belong in the National. Let's see Poitras and Merculov rotate in with Lindholm in top 6 center roles and get Coyle back to the 3rd line. Let's see Lysell on the 2nd line with Marchand. Let's see young guys with offensive upside instead of established veterans with no offensive skill (Geekie) or nothing left to give (Max Jones, Tyler Johnson), or someone who desperately needs a reset (Lindholm). I can't help but think that Monte is only the first domino to fall, and, while they can certainly clear out the front office and roll over the coaching staff, they are in no position to do a hard reset because they have one, maybe two players they can trade for good picks: Pasta and McAvoy. And McAvoy has ruined his trade value for at least the short term and Pasta is the top end talent they would want to build around. All this being said, I am just a fan and profoundly unqualified to judge Monte's performance (or that of the front office) or suggest solutions, but I can identify inconsistencies and we can all see the amount of quit the team is playing with this year. He's obviously lost the room and that is the death knell for any coach. But I genuinely wish him well and I will root for him whenever his next team is not playing the Bruins. Unless he goes to St. Louis of course; if he does that then a pox upon his house!!!

Totally agree. Monty wasn't the problem and he totally got scapegoated here. Hopefully this is the kick in the pants the boys need because these first games have been painful to watch.

I’m not buying this wild team. They have a stingy defense and Gus looks great but they’re a one line team. Tough out in playoffs but they’re still a first round exit. I don’t see them getting past Dallas or Winnipeg.
