The world tournament has been held since 1926. China won gold 149 times, Hungary won 68, Japan won 48. Sweden men last won in 2000 and singapore women last won in 2010. Therefore it is possible to win over China. But in order to do it consistently, that is a different story all together. I think, more foreigners need to play and train in the Chinese super league. The exposure will only help strengthen the game. It helps that Table Tennis is a national game in China. Just like football in Brazil or basketball in the USA.

High population doesn't guarantee success, most of the highly populated countries ranked at the bottom of Olympic medal table. Accumulated knowledge, training method, and work culture are what determine success. (In some sports, genetic is also a factor, e.g. track & field)

reasons from video : -China has a lot of table tennis players (ok but why are they attracted to table tennis and not to another sport ? India is high populated too and has not same good quantities/results) -Chinese people love this sport very much (because it's on TV / everywhere but why ? ) -Best coaches in the world (because they are former world champions because they are good) -Best table tennis partners in the world (because 2nd rank players are good) In my humble opinion, all these reasons listed are mostly consequences and continues to help China keeping its level in a virtuous (double ;-) ) circle . It would be interesting to find out why/how China has become N1 compared to former situation when Europe was N1 in 1930ies (Barna rules !) .. the inital reasons.

@@ukaszrokita4906 The ITTF's rule change aims to restrict the Chinese team, not the European team. In China, the second most popular sport is football, and table tennis is only the third. The Chinese government is very supportive of table tennis, which is indeed one of the reasons why Chinese table tennis can be successful.

That can't be the reason. Many Asian and some European countries start from similar age with long hours too, particularly Koreans and Japanese, yet they don't even come close. Whereas in badminton, you can see China losing. There's something abt TT that China has a grip on.

@Benlo
@Benlo 3 жыл бұрын
Huge population is definitely a factor, having more people who play, generating more talented players. What more I think is the Chinese government's support for the sport, everything is paid for and taken care off by the government. In a way the chinese team feel more like trained army soldiers than athletes, the way they behave and speak, and the diciplinary they have. There are exceptions of course. When emotions take over, like Zhang Jike, or the more recent Wang chuqin incident.
