I live in a resort town and my dad and I both work on the mountain, he does ski patrol and I bartend. As weird as that sounds, having both roles in such a close relationship helps a lot. If there's an accident I can tell him how many any parties involved have had, and I know the full gravity of what can happen on the runs and when to cut someone off. Also there's no one I enjoy riding with more, we've both been doing it our whole lives and even at his age he shows me up in ways I'd never expect. He's a great dude and I love him a lot 🖤

I broke my arm on an Olympic sized halfpipe (21 or 22ft) at Copper Mountain, CO. This freaking legend rode his snowmobile ON THE HALFPIPE. Their ski patrol uses snowmobiles and not skis, so I wasn't getting special treatment or anything. A skier would been just fine, so it's not like I was getting that when a person was super injured was only getting a person.

born and raised in a ski town in Colorado, ski patrol was THE job. our resort tested applicants by getting a senior patroller to lead a bunch of applicants up and down over the entire slope with no break in every terrain, everyone in town had a story about what score they got or how many hours they lasted for. while a lot of the calls were pretty stupid (speeder on a green, tourist got on a too-hard run and is now just refusing to move, stand at the bottom of a dangerous run and strip the season passes of speeders), but in real situations, ski patrol is incredible at what they do. mad respect.
