If they knew they were ditching or doing a forced landing with no engine power, couldn't they have dumped the fuel before impact? More of the passengers could've been saved. Very sad tragedy. Rest in peace to the victims.

PNG pilots are better fitted to fly in the rough terrains of PNG.
