I hear a lot about better help. I might try it. Even people who arent depressed or who dont even realize they are depressed, I think it would be helpful for everybody. I joined some anxiety group, and it's so nice I get to meet and listen to new people, and there also some cool females there I'm going to marry (one even has 40+ animals) Anyways, I'm just saying, even if your mental health is good, this stuff cant hurt and can only halp.

@PabloS hey pablo. One of my best advices for high school is to dont worry about being "cool". Theres so much drama, and most of those people dont do anything than trying to be "cool" instead of anything interesting. Then I got depressed and started hanging out alone or in the library at lunch, and then I met so many nice people, who were so talented, smart, funny, intelligent, and were considered "uncool", and they actually ended up being the *coolest* people I ever met. I'm just trying to say, be you, and dont worry about social drama crap. "Bullies" or douchebags also have their own insecurity issues, so they try to make other people feel insecure. OKAY IM RAMBLING Just enjoy high school. Meet new people. Enjoy learning new subjects. High school is a difficult time for lots of people, but when it's done, people are a lot nicer and changed. (I think our animal instincts try to make everybody the alpha Male and its dumb...) IM RAMBLING... OKAY BYE.

Ve Vee That’s incredible!!! Funnily enough I worked as a club masseuse (it sounds shady, but it wasn’t!!) and it made me think about pet hydrotherapy and physio.
@iamvevee6 жыл бұрын
Emzotic I used to be in charge of the this health clubs massage therapy departments that was in Florida. They had 6 clubs. The name was Massotherapy department which makes it sound more professional. There’s just a few therapist that give us a bad reputation sadly. They crack down in those type of businesses here in Florida. Anyway hydrotherapy is a wonderful way in rehabilitation. Also pressure point and energy work is wonderful in helping animals to relax and heal. There was one rescue I couldn’t work on. They were meaner than snakes. That was these 2 baby foxes that had just opened their eyes. They was covered in tar from road work. Their mother was killed. They reminded me of the Steven King movie The Langoliers because they were just lil balls of fur tar and Teeth lol. It’s amazing to discover different animals and their personalities. Working with animals are so rewarding. The only animals I take in is baby squirrels cause I have very limited space. Where as I used to live in the country and I had a raccoon and a possum was wasn’t eligible for release along with a few others and I would take them to different schools for wildlife education. The possum thought he was a cat and was so sweet. He was even friendlier and loved to be held and he also used the litter box and the raccoon was also very friendly and used the potty. They loved being massaged People really underestimate these creatures. BTW I don’t want people to think that these make good pets and try to get one for a pet

Hi, My name is Tobias and I really want to work with animals, more specifically with reptiles. You have been one of many inspirations that has well.. inspired me to want to do that. The only problem is that I come from very far north in Norway, where we have only one species of reptile and keeping reptiles as pets just became legal and my parents hate them. I plan on moving out of the country or at least further south in Norway when I get the chance to pursue that kind of career. I just wanted to say that for no specific reason :)

You probably won’t see this, but about a year ago I discovered your videos while browsing with my girlfriend, and we immediately subscribed. At the time I was a jaded twenty-something, with a degree in art, in a job I’m not passionate about just because it pays my loans. I felt like working with animals, which has always been as aspiration of mine, was a pipe dream. Until I started watching you! Inspired, I looked for any connections I could, and that led me to a raptor (birds of prey, for any younger followers out there) rehabilitation center. I have now been volunteering there for a few months and am constantly helping and learning about some of nature’s most amazing animals. Hands on! It is giving me drive and even though I don’t get paid, I know it will pave my way to a career in wild animal conservation. So thank you so much. Your positive influence reaches farther than you know! This entire shift in my life began with that one video I stumbled across.

Hi, Em! I've watched your channel for forever, and, like a lot of others, you're definitely an inspiration for me! I currently go to school for animal related sciences and I really love it. I actually just started my training to eventually work with raptors today and I'm soooo excited about the future. The program actually gives you the option to work with rehabilitation and/or educational outreach, so handling and taking the educational ambassadors out like you do. Anyways, I really wanted to thank you for making these videos because it really does open up another world for people who want to work with animals. Working with animals definitely doesn't just stop at veterinary work and a lot of people don't necessarily know about it. To everyone else, what Em says really does matter! One of the most important things to prep yourself for a future with animal related jobs is experience. In college do everything you can to get experience whether its internships or volunteer work or helping other students/professors with their research. The main way to learn about these opportunities is to join clubs, talk to your advisers and professors, and make friends! When you hand in a resume, animal professionals will look for things you've done related to the job you're applying for, not just your GPA. And, another thing that a lot of people are worried about when considering getting a job in animal related fields is, of course, the pay. And, to be honest, a lot of positions are entirely volunteer based or not too well paying, but, don't get discouraged because it's definitely possible to make a living! Some people do other things on the side, like make and sell jewelry to make extra, too. There's a lot of options! Opportunities are everywhere. :)

This video helped me so much. I always knew animals were my passion, but I'm a sophomore in high school and I need to start looking for jobs. I have looked at a lot of animal jobs, but lately I've been stumped. But I've looked into puppy raising for Guide Dogs for the Blind and you mentioned becoming a trainer their and I realized that was what I wanted to do. Dogs have always clicked with me and this job seems perfect. I wanted to own a lot of animals (not a crazy amount but out of the normal amount of pets for regular families) and I thought the only logical reason to own a lot of animals was for animal education and not just for owning a friend. but this video also made me realize that I can own a good amount of animals without having to be forced to do a job I didn't want to do. (Also just as a note, I do know that if you cant take care of the animal or I am suffering my future animals will be suffering to so me getting a good amount of animals will probably be dogs, cats, ferrets, sugar gliders, bunnies, mini horses, and dwarf goats. and it wont be like 20 of each species I promise)

Recently I've been so hopeless in being able to do anything, let alone something I have a passion for and this inspired me. You also let me know that it's okay to talk to multiple people, to keep calling and to just ask. It may sound silly but that's been a fear. Not wanting to be a bother because I don't know what is and isn't okay to do in this area. I think I am going to go to the animal shelter and ask them if I can take some pictures of the animals there. Thank you! (Also I would love to hear your ZooKeeper talk)

Some people don't like this store but it is literally the only pet store around, PetSmart... I have been responding and responding to all their job offers online and gotten nowhere for months and months (almost 2 years actually). But after talking with a lovely lady at the job I'm currently at, she told me not to give up and that I would be such a great fit at any pet store so do anything to get their attention. Now, thanks to you as well Em, I'm going to definitely keep persevering and talk to them in person about how I can improve ways to get even just an interview. Thank you Em. This video couldn't have come at a more perfect time. I've been attending Rutgers University majoring in animal science. Financial issues has caused me to temporarily stop studying and just work. Recently lost my job and now my mom and I are struggling to support ourselves and our animals. I've had no luck finding anything and have lately been feeling that going to college was a mistake because of all the student loans, feeling like I'm not getting enough guidance while also not being sure what it is I want to do with animals. I was thinking about grooming but felt I may end up too frustrated with problematic animals. I originally wanted to be a vet but I dont think I could ever forgive myself if I made a mistake and it cost a life (those school loans are terrifying too). With dog training you have to be very outspoken and whatnot to find clients but, I tend to find people very intimidating and worry I can't make the leap. I felt like my options were very limited. I may not know what I want to do yet but, you have given me hope that I will overcome this rough patch and find something. With tears in my eyes, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will work hard and be more persistent. ❤

I dropped that idea once I was told by two vets that the job would have put me in so much debt that I would have had no hope of getting out if I ever changed my mind. Seeing as I barely passed Algebra II, I don't think that would have worked out for me. So, I was really....lost, for a long time. I told myself I'd be a nurse (yeah, doesn't make sense) to pay for a zoology degree and then figure it out later, but I realized I'm not really fond of the idea of constantly seeing strangers naked and being (understandably) snapped at by people who are in pain. At that point, I was really scared. I struggle with depression and social anxiety, and I'm a closeted LGBT+ individual amidst extremely conservative Christians, so the thought of having to stay at home for getting my zoology degree and having to miss out on more of my life was terrifying. But then, I discovered Pettube, and you. And about that same time, I discovered pet sitting and Rover. I watched your Draw my Life video, and suddenly a light bulb clicked. I signed up for Rover and now I work full-time watching furry toddlers who I refer to as my surrogate children - from a Great Pyrenes named Quentin who I swear was Naga from Avatar in a past life, to a blue and gold macaw name Sunny whose screams I now hear in my sleep, to a Cane Corso with fear regression with has bonded with me to the point that he must be touching me at all times or he's not happy, to a Mastiff name Annabelle with separation anxiety who looks for me whenever I leave, and dozens more. I'm also currently attempting to get certified as a dog trainer, and I hope to specialize in behavior modification, especially fear aggression (any tips you can give me would very, very much appreciated). It's proving to be a very confusing, complicated process, but I'm persisting and I have a friend who has said she will help me get certified and even give me a job working for her company if I so wish! I'm now pursuing two extremely fulfilling jobs where my hours are up to myself, with the hopes of also starting up youtube once I can move out. I'm also going to be going to community college for a couple years - then, if I can make my dreams come true, I'll be pursuing a bachelors in zoology with an emphasis in ethology. I'm still unsure about a lot of things and I still have a lot of bad days. I long for a house of my own but I also long to see the world and I don't know how to reconcile the two cost wise. I deal with the fear of eventual rejection from all of the friends and family I've grown up with. Some days, I'm so hard on myself and I really, truly, hate myself. But I live for the mornings where I'm house sitting, and my sweet mini polar bear Quentin wakes me up with his cuddles. This whole comment is probably a giant mess, but I wanted to say thank you. You are one of the people whose videos I watch when I need hope, inspiration, or a drive to achieve.

Hi Em, I'm on my last year of high-school and I was having little break downs, because I knew I want to work with animals, but I didn't really know what to do or were to start. Your videos have helped me a lot, especially this one. After I've written down a couple of things... I'm starting to think that it'll work out somehow and I'm less afraid about the future - I just can't give up, I have to try every opportunity I will be given and if one way won't work out another might :D Thank you very much for your help, positive attitude and fun videos, I'll never stop watching them!

I'd absolutely adore a job with animals but my parents really disprove of me doing it as they say it has long hours, bad pay and they always say its for people who aren't very smart. Its so annoying because i'm incredibly interested in zoology and learning about animals and their evolution, survival techniques and adaptations.

I don't understand at all how he could say that the field is for people who are "not very smart" considering zoology is a very science heavy degree! I have a friend who spends months at sea studying whales. It's a lot of data collection and processing and it takes a LOT of math and science. She's certainly one of the smartest people I know (and I also know a couple biomedical engineers) and it's a good thing she is because if she weren't she wouldn't be able to understand or do her job! There's also SUCH a range in pay rates depending on what you specialize in and the specific job you choose to go into with your degree. Don't let someone else's misguided view of a field prevent you from going into it. You have to live with the day to day of your job and what you do with your life- your parents don't. The joy they'll get from seeing you go into a field they would prefer won't be enough to outweigh the disappointment and wondering you'll be left with if you ditch your dreams to follow a career you aren't passionate about. Parents are also never, ever as pleased as they let on that they'll be when you finally make the accomplishment they've been pushing you toward. Be what you want to be and they'll realize in time that not only are you intelligent and that your field does require intelligence and expertise, but that you're happy and passionate about what you do. Surely they'll be happier in the long run that you're happy than they would be if you were miserable but in the career they wanted.

I was hired at my aquarium when I was 17 as someone who works on front of house and did the talks, I then managed to make friends with the aquarists and began volunteering for them . It took 3 years and there were many times I thought about giving it up because I felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere.. don’t give up! Keep going, keep expanding your knowledge. I just switched so now I’m currently in college majoring in vet tech and for the past couple of months I was so dissatisfied because I didn’t wanna go to vet school at all but had no idea what I could do with animals without a degree. I had some thoughts but no real ideas so thank you! I’ve finally decided while I’m going to finish this degree, I don’t want to go to vet school and I do want to work with exotic animals. I’m hoping I can start at a sanctuary but who knows where life will take me! I’m just so excited to finish school and get going. I know I want to work with animals 100% I just am not sure specifically if I want to be more technical like a vet or more of a speaker but this video helped me be more comfortable not knowing for sure. im only 19 after all lol. this video is also motivating me to find places around me to work with animals. I’m a paraprofessional for special needs students specifically in the program for students with autism and I created an agriculture program in our school starting at the end of last year or so about March we decided to get ducklings Muscovy ducklings to be exact and it has been a journey but an amazing one it’s amazing how the students take to the animals so quickly they love them so much and you can see it in their eyes and it’s just the most rewarding feeling knowing that you brought that into their life most students that don’t have pets at home, they still get to have the ability to interact with an animal thanks to this program. Not many people understand why just “having ducks” is such a big deal to me. Anywho, where there is a will, there’s a way! If you have an idea- go for it! I totally understand that catch 22. Do you have the ability to board small animals at home when their owners go on holiday? That can be a good way to create your own job to bring in. A small amount of money and also to get references and experience working with animals - it also shows that you’re enterprising and capable. Also, try as many places as possible! Make a noise and make sure people see you! Email everywhere, write about your good qualities and anything that could count as experience! Xx

I know this is about a month after this comment but one really helpful thing to do is to email/contact local businesses and try to get a weeks work experience here and there with animals! The company doesn’t have to pay plus it proves you are trustworthy and will gain experience as you go! If the company are hiring at the time they will see how dedicated you are to work there for free, and may even hire you :) I’ve been trying this out, so far I’ve done a week in my local pet shop and am planning to do some in my local dog daycare, and anywhere else I can find while I’m looking for work, hopefully volunteering at an animal shelter too
