The thing I found strange is that it seems like the cast don't know each other well that's why during interviewesr, they always refer each other as their characters and thus answered as their characters would. Only Yibo and Zhan seemed to know each other more better because they spent time together on set.

Nah, the cast is pretty close, it's actually rather normal for actors to call each other by their characters name on set.

On set, they are supposed to call each other’s character name to stay in character. This is why this drama is so successful as all the cast gel well together so during acting, there is real emotion. Xiao Zhan said it took him a while to come out the character and Yi-bo did answer at one point to describe the “summer” when they filmed together as “real emotion solid feel”. I feel yibo really loved Xiao zhan during filming as the character is written for. They both read the original book so they know their relationship is “boy love”. Yibo was so in character hence his acting is very genuine. Xiao Zhang creates Wei Yin and he is Wei Yin.
