Many times I shoot volleyball matches and I'm on the floor and have to focus on players on the other side of the net. I'm curious if the net may impede the camera's face detection focusing capabilities.

Thank you for taking the time to explain! Is this THE best technique for shooting portraits with my D810? I mean, some sites advocate "not letting the focusing to the camera"? I confess I have yet to experiment using this technique but it seems "logical" to leave it to the camera sensor to find the subject within one of the 51 focus points instead of, me, having to manually use AF-S, Single Area, aim the central Focus point onto the subject, recompose and shoot?

Sir,Please let me know which camera would be best for vlogging among Canon 6D mark 1 and Nikon D750 ? Please advice with logical information.
@ThePhantomPhotographer4 жыл бұрын
Hi Joy, both aren't particularly great. The Nikon D750 would need to be moved to AF-F with face detect to get your face movement within the frame while vlogging. The Nikons generally tend to continually "hunt" focus in this mode which is not great. the 6Dm1 I don't think has autofocus once you start recording either, so you won't be able to change focus points while recording. I would go a cheap mirrorless from Canon or Sony for vlogging as your best option.

@@ThePhantomPhotographer I ask because I have been asked to do a wedding in October. I dont do weddings anymore. I stopped shooting them and got out of photography for about 8 years or so just as the very first DSLR's were coming out. The Minolta RS-175 was the very first one to release. I couldn't afford spending $4k for a body to use the 4 lenses I had for my Minolta Maxxum 800si. When I got back into it, I had a lot of catch up to do. I also vowed not to do another wedding because my schedule on my primary job is very difficult to work weddings around. This one is for my baby brother. That's the only reason I agreed to do it.

@@PaulW98Z Good Luck with the wedding! I know the feeling of Primary Job. I have a full time non photography job. But just love photography, and do jobs on the side. I was struggling to enable this on my D850 ... too keen to play with it out the box ... though the instructions appear to omit the thing you do with the AF-C button and front dial, setting it to auto. Nor, though, hence my comment here, do you explain what AF-C + front dial = Auto actually does. I guess it might be in the Nikon instructions somewhere but they don't help themselves in not putting it all in once place.

Hey There, yes, official instructions are a little vague. If you don't enable face detect while in AF-C & Auto, it will just randomly select a focus point in the area and track that. (you don't decide, the camera does). Hope this helps!!

@@ThePhantomPhotographer I thought this was just face tracking but since it seems to track the eye, how are the reviewed shots? Is the focus actually on the pupil or eyebrow/lashes? I put the dslr (Nikon D5200 with AF-S 18-140mm) on tripod. 3. In Live View I have set the AF-area mode to face priority to see a nice green square around my face and so do i see when i come to front of the camera and see through the display. 4. Now i set a shoot timer and press the shutter release button as soon as i am in focus. 5. The focus light starts blinking so ready to take a photo in 10 seconds. 6. Now as soon as i start stepping back while in front of canera to take a good picture, i see myself out of focus in camera display despite the green square around my face. No matter how well i move around to get myself in focus but it doesn't get me in focus. But If I ask somebody to do a favor to half press shutter release button before timer expires, i come in focus. But i would not be able to do that alone. Any suggestions? 🙂

I’m not sure but is the 5200 compatible with the Nikon Wireless Mobile Utility App? You can try that to focus. If not, either get a tether to trigger it, a remote-or if you want to do it like me, I place a tripod where I’ll be sitting, focus on that and put a timer on😅

Can you help me with Nikon d7200 to enable face detection, cause I can't find that settings in my camera
@ThePhantomPhotographer5 жыл бұрын
Hey there Privan, I don't think the D7200 has face detect available. It is only on some full frame cameras like the D810, D850, D5 etc.

@@ThePhantomPhotographer Hi, D7100 has it always ON by default (in AF-C / AUTO) it hasn't an option to turn it OFF in menu as D500, D810, D850 :) D7200 should have it too, it is the same D7100 with upgrade. Just select AF-C / AUTO and enjoy. Higher end bodies got possibility to turn it off ;)

Don't think the D 800 supports it Kenny.

Good video I'm thinking of buying this camera but I wasn't very impressed by the way it was tracking you. I guessing it would work better if you just walked straight on instead of crisscrossing back and forth it probably would work better that way but at least it has something for face detection.

Thanks for watching. The D810 is still a decent camera but these older DSLRs just can’t compete with the technology in the new mirrorless cameras . The D810 is Still a landscape photography beast though !
