Enamel paints are household and automobile paints that are formulated to be very fluid. They are typically opaque and rich in pigment, since they are designed to cover a surface in a single coat of paint. Enamels can use an array of different binders that include alkyd (a modified linseed oil), acrylic, latex, and oil. Abstract Expressionist artists such as Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning were among the first to regularly use enamel paints in making works of art.

I actually tried using enamel in one of my painting project and it is actually good, specially in painting a wide portion of your work, it will easily spread and leaves a smoother, bright and shiny finish. The only problem is that it takes time to dry compared to other mediums like acrylic and poster color.

Corey... since it’s very difficult to find the Ripolin paint brand these days, which brand of oil paint is the next best to use nowadays? Thanks..

Thanks for that, I use enamel paints, dare i say oil paints are overrated?

S C Well it should always be the right tool for the right job You wouldn’t use oil paints for a Jackson Pollock type painting especially one that’s 6 feet by say 18 feet. It would be wayyy to expensive and unnecessary...but if you’re doing s simple still life I’d go for the oils for sure maybe acrylics
