They all have different names because "Octoban" is a trademark from Hoshino Gakki, which is the company that owns Tama and Ibanez. Gavin's "log drums" are different because they're 8" diameter instead of 6" and have a reso head instead of being open on the bottom.

Can anyone tell me if there’s new material/album coming out from them I been waiting for King Crimson’s new stuff for awhile...I heard this from a guy like a year or so ago at a record place where I went and sold some CD’s one day he said that they’re supposed to be having a new album coming out this year and this all came up over a shirt he had hanging up on the wall behind him lol I said “that’s a really nice shirt” he’s like “thanks I been listening to King Crimson for years and years they’re one of my favorite groups they should be coming out with a new album in 2018”
@BeatlesBowieKrimson6 жыл бұрын
Gavin, I've seen you twice with Crimson. You, obviously, control the band.
@dylanturner32166 жыл бұрын
Crimson Kng control is a strong word. He is responsible for writing all parts and rehearsing the drummers in advance of full band rehearsals. The concept, I’m told I “three drummers with one voice”. It’s powerful and amazing. Bruford did the same in the double trio.

So many people are cutting rings out of a head and putting it inside the bottom head of floor Toms. Couldn’t you just put a Remo Powerstroke 4 on the bottom of your floor Tom. It’s a two ply head with the ring built in.
@ofdrumsandchords6 жыл бұрын
Different methods, different effects. I put a thin head on bottom of the floor tom, but let a piece of cloth (imitation felt), size of a CD or less on the bottom head. Just sitting, no sticking. It acts like a noise-gate, lets the plain sound get out with harmonics, and cut the resonance. You don't have this sound with a thick head.
@seybsnilksz6 жыл бұрын
On the Powerstroke the ring is attached to the head, affecting the sound at all times. With a loose ring, it will fly up everytime the drum is hit, and then shorten the sustain a bit when it lands on the bottom head again.
