My grandfather was born on a Reserve in Canada. His people,the Haudenosaunee, had lived for thousands of years in what is now called the State of New York. In 1779 General John Sullivan under the orders of George Washington, rampaged across Haudenosaunee land destroyed over 40 villages, their fields, orchards and food stores. Those who were not killed outright died of starvation and disease. As many as 50% of the people died. Many of the survivors fled into what is now called Canada.
