I don't get why people saying the story line and plot don't make sense I am a teen and it makes sense to me. If you are going into this movie thinking it's a super hero action movie with a big bad villain just so you know it's not,the animation is so beautiful and I love the songs . One of the songs is about one of the characters feeling pressure to be pretty and perfect all the time. Also near the end it kinda feels a little rush but I still love this movie

I didn't like her stuck up attitude or being the "perfect" one, but once she sang her song and let it out how much of a burden it is to be perfect and make perfect flowers I grew to like her. Plus I love the more colorful flowers she created and agree that her style was better in the end 😁

Encanto is truly one of the greatest movies ever made. The animation, songwriting, character designs, the story, the representation are all top tier. Hats off to Lin-manuel Miranda for doing such an amazing job. There is so much emotion that is displayed beautifully. I love all of the characters, and I do wish that all of the characters got to tell their stories, especially camilo and pepa. Those who did get to tell their story through a song really helped me understand the characters. The cast did a brilliant job bringing their characters to life, and I love every single character. The relationship between all of the characters is very heart-warming, and it shows the importance of family.

I like that not everyone had a power. Mirabel, the husbands, Alma, the townspeople because they still were able to help with their talents and skills which is just as important as the magical abilities. Also, how did you forget about Isabel and her ability when you kept bringing her up. You mentioned her right when you were explaining Luisa... You also forgot about Julietta - the mother of Luisa, Isabel, and Mirabel... She has healing powers in the form of food.

1000/10 BEST MOVIE!! I’ve seen this movie twice and I’m waiting for it to be on Disney+ I absolutely love the dynamic of this movie. It’s interesting because you don’t expect the main character to lash out as Mirabel is seen doing. And it’s also not cliche that she didn’t receive a gift at the end. And all the characters (especially Bruno) are so amazing. Don’t even get me started on the music. This is legit my favourite movie and I could rant for hours about it!

I did not enjoy this movie. Oh, there are plenty of people who will, and you, reader, are likely to as well. However, when I watched this movie, I felt bored. The movie was uninspiring for me, I felt no attachment whatsoever, and cared nothing for Maribel's journey to self-discovery. The movie starts with a musical number to introduce the Madrigal family, a large family who lives in a magical house and each member possessed a magical gift that they use to help their town. They are led by Abuela, who runs the place and helps keep everyone in line. Unfortunately, Maribel was not given a magical gift and struggles to find ways to aid the family and town through ordinary means. When she learns of a prophecy by the now-missing Bruce (whom we don't talk about) that suggests she will bring an end to the magical home, she sets off on a journey of self-discovery and find a way to stop it from happening. The characters are all introduced just fine. We know who each person is and what they can do, and even a little of their quirks. However, because there are so many characters to keep track of and so little screentime, I did not really feel much when each character starts to show their personal plights. There was not enough character development in each character to make me care about them. Maribel was given the most character development and even then, I did not feel much for her. She felt bland, with your typical cheery "Disney princess" personality. Even her appearance made her look like every other 3D Disney female protagonist, just with a difference skin tone. It is almost blasphemous to state this movie and its characters represent Columbia and its culture when hardly any of it was present. It may have LOOKED Columbian, but it lacked that Columbian flavor. The only character that seemed to have any semblance of personality was the reclusive Bruce, and even he seemed to have the typical "quirky Disney guy" trope. It all just felt done before, a been-there-done-that aura that failed to leave any lasting impression. Encanto is the movie to show us that Disney may have lost its magic. I get the sense that all viable talent in the company has a Pixar nametag on their chest. When was the last good film produced by Disney's animation studio? Moana? Ralph Breaks the Internet? Frozen 2 was when I realized how creatively bankrupt this studio really is, as no film from there forward left any sort of lasting impression on me. Just as the last two movies before it, Encanto just feels soulless.

I mean everyone has their own opinions, and here’s mine. I don’t think Mirabel is bland because her “cheery” personality is just 1 of the many personalities she can exhibit. There’s so many complexities to her feelings. In fact, her cheery personality is actually masking her emotions of feeling left out for not having a gift, so it’s like she’s pretending she’s all happy and cheery when deep down, she’s not fine and feels depressed. What’s your standards for character development tho? I thought there was so much character development considering that they had to look into most of the family member’s problems. Pepa goes from always having issues with her cloud and trying to conceal her emotions to accepting her gift and understanding that it’s ok to express her emotions. Antonio starts maturing throughout the movie by helping Mirabel with her journey. Bruno gains confidence to make a reappearance to the family. Isabela realizes she doesn’t always have to be perfect. Luisa realizes that it’s ok to take breaks when she has to deal with a lot of pressure.

I think the gifts have EVERYTHING to do w each character’s mom; excluding PEPA. I think her gift is a metaphor for some anxiety disorder(very relatable) could be ocd, bi-polar, bpd, even adhd. The point is, her children’s gifts are reactions to her. DOLORES is the 1st on the scene and so of course becomes hypersensitive in the stormy environment. This is probably the most logical gift. Real introverts work the same; empirical data shows they can be identified by sensitivity in infancy. Then CAMILLO becomes the pacifier, the one who knows how to keep mom in a good mood(first song: ”camillo won’t stop till he makes you smile”). And ANTONIO is born with the buffers of his siblings but still learns to hide nerves from his mom, and(as we see w mirabel) seems to develop a strong sense of compassion and empathy, which he uses to connect w animals. JULIETA was not as expressive w her emotions as pepa, and seems to be more attuned to the needs of others(maybe this is because of her sister’s volatility; She also had a single-mother. It may also be why Julieta’s daughter was chosen by casita to be the truth-teller/miracle-savior, since it knew mirabel would be watched over). She is the original overachiever; the child who made dinner for her single-mother and siblings. And so her gift is very useful! Her children will notice that. ISABELA and LUISA weren’t occupied by the appeasement of pepa or mom, they became occupied w the appeasement of Alma, and developed the same grit that Mirabel did; longing to be useful like mama is, to be praised by the family. And because of that grit their gifts were indeed powerful, but they found downsides of course; downsides then magnified after witnessing the treatment mirabel received from alma. They no longer dreamt of being useful; they had to be useful and subsequently began to lose their own senses of identity. BRUNO was anxious like Pepa, but more quiet and dwelling; ergo precognition. So nearly all of the Encanto powers are reactions to parental situations and influences! Pepa and Bruno might just have mental illness and that’s great too(although we see how stressful war is on Alma; their anxiety could just be another manifestation of generational trauma/ptsd)

Way over young kids heads, and it’s too preachy for everyone else. Don’t take anyone under 7 because they wouldn’t understand it. Not the many many messages and meanings Disney’s trying to cram down your throat nor any of the songs. Every successful movie like this or Coco, Frozen, has memorable songs you remember, hum or sing later on. This has no such songs. And the length, about two hours or close to it, is way too long. Skip this one and head over to Ghostbusters. It’s a much more interesting, funny and seen from mostly the eyes off the young actors in the movie. Even younger kids would enjoy that one.

Any time I ask them to choose they both pick ENCANTO❤️ , my daughter is 3 my son is 1 yrs old both mixed race , Black & Hispanic it’s really heart warming to see kids like them. A film that had potential Now in the bottom half of the review, there will be spoilers but if you'd like a review without spoilers read the top half. Cons -Plot confusion -Pacing issues -Introducing too many characters and then not giving enough background to them -No main villain -Not feeling empathetic really towards the characters besides the main character and Luisa (her "muscular" sister) -Lack of content with Bruno Pro -Good representation - Certain songs such as "We don't talk about Bruno" was good -Key details with outfits were nice -Diversity -Certain characters -Messages with family pressures we’re good -The main character represented felt relatable Spoiler Portion: Plot confusion: There was no one main villain at all in this movie. The whole time it felt we were leading up to nothing. Bruno who I thought was going to be a villain wasn't led up to much. In there he was portrayed as mysterious but we quickly meet him and nothing interesting happened. He was shown to be telling bad moments from the future but it seemed like everyone forgot and everything was perfect again. This film would've benefited from a plot twist but there was none. Characters: The film wanted us to feel sympathetic to the characters when their powers were leaving but besides Luisa, all the other characters seemed lucky. Isabella could've also been in this category but they made her seem ruder and they never explained why she and Mirabel(the Main character) were not on good terms. Her voice didn't have the maturity that I was expecting and she seemed younger than Mirabel. Her singing voice was good though since it matured more. The main character never had an explanation of why she didn't get power and this made it confusing. People said it was supposedly because she was supposed to be like the Abuela but this doesn't make much sense. Why was she the only one who didn't get power meanwhile Antonio and others did? What main importance does she even have if she is given Abuela's role? Songs: The beginning song in my opinion wasn't my favorite personally. We don't talk about Bruno being my favorite but with the holes in the movies, the songs weren't being enjoyed as much as they should've been. After talking with more people I realized that a lot of people liked different songs which is totally fine. When watching this with my family I had felt like the one understanding since I have read stuff about the movie before like how Mirabel was supposedly to be like the Grandmother (Since they both don't have powers) but instead, they were struggling and questioning the "holes" in the movie. I genuinely think this movie could've been amazing but it felt rushed and didn't deliver in terms of plot. 2.5/5

Here’s some answers to ur questions: For the plot, the point was to step away from this classic “villain” or “twist villain” movie, and make it something more realistic, so I don’t see why it should lead up to a villain. The reason that the family members accepted him is because first, they miss him, and second, much of the family’s problems were revealed during the Mirabel and Abuela argument scene, which also would include the problem of Bruno and his prophecies. This led to everyone understanding that they should stop acting as if everything was fine, and should address these problems and fix it. This would imply that they should stop portraying Bruno as a villain and instead welcome him. Idk about the film didn’t wanting us to sympathize with their loss of powers. What they want us to sympathize with is the burden they experience once they have the powers. For example, things like Pepa having to control her emotions because it’s connected to the weather, or Isabela having to be perfect, etc. They do explain why Isabela and Mirabel were not on good terms, but it might’ve been too quick for u to catch. It was the scene where Mirabel tries to get a hug from Isabela. She says “I’ve been stuck my entire life being perfect, and all you have done is mess it up”. Basically, Isabela was tryna keep this streak of “being perfect” since that’s what Abuela expected of her, so she was mad when she had to make up for Mirabel’s mistakes and her non “perfect” actions. But later, they become friends because Isabela actually doesn’t want to be perfect all the time, and Mirabel helps her realize that goal so then she becomes thankful to Mirabel for allowing her to break free of these constraints and growing new plants. Mirabel does have a gift actually, just not visible for others to see. Her gift is being the embodiment of the candle’s magic, which explains why when she felt down at certain times, the house would begin to crack as the house is tied to the candle’s magic. What makes her stand out from the rest of the family is her ability to emphathize and look into most of the family member’s internal problems that they don’t want to reveal. She helps connect the family together and improve every member’s understanding of one another. For example, she looks into Luisa’s problem with dealing with too much pressure, she cares about antonio feeling lonely, digs into Isabela’s problem of feeling like she’s always constrained by the boundaries of “being perfect”, etc. Now about the magic, u can actually see her using it “internally” during the “Waiting for a Miracle” song where she creates images of a Casita and her family smiling. I would theorize that this is the candle’s magic that she uses to create her imagination of the miracle that she wants.

The husbands do not have powers because they weren't born into the family, but were married in. They don't have magical abilities, but incredible talents/skills. Julietta's husband was good at musical instruments. Pepe's husband was good at grounding Pepe with her emotions and loving others..

okay so honestly i thought this movie was pretty cheesy like me and my sis looked at the trailer we started laughing. and yes it was very cheesy. but i liked the songs and the animation was beautiful! the thing is, the ending of the movie was just... not good. like the only thing she did to save the house is find bruno then everyone gets mad at her so she runs away crying and then her grandma finds her and says she's not a horrible person so they go back to the house and it's fixed! the end! like, what? 😑 they didn't even go on an adventure i know that sounds like i'm a nerd who needs dragons and perilous adventures in a story (and i am) but literally this movie was kind of dull without one so two stars please read this and take it into consideration before you give it all the five stars i'm seeing

R u gonna leave out the parts where she hugs Isabela, argues with Abuela, digs into luisa’s problem of pressure and Isabela’s problem of being perfect, and also not just finding but also talking with Bruno to understand y he left? U prob missed the entire point of the movie and the symbolism that would explain why the house was cracking in the 1st place. Yes, adventure movies are some ppl’s favorites but that’s exactly what this movie didn’t want to do. They wanted to step aside from the typical “leave your main town to embark on a journey somewhere” type of movie. U can’t just deduct stars because of that.

The animation itself is good I can notice that they worked a lot in it. But I also understand that it´s a fiction movie. But here I am commenting here publicly just to say what I think of the movie. The reason why I placed 2 stars is because in my opinion there are too much of women. It´s the only way I think I could say it. The reason why I say this is because if you see Luisa, she is a very strong and proud person. I get it´s a fiction movie, but couldn´t the film makers make that character a guy. I know there are strong women out there in the world but, it just looks weird. Like a big built women, that can carry a church dancing and just going along and acting like a singer. It just doesn´t fit, then again it´s a fiction, but this is just me commenting about what i thought about it. Another thing I didn´t like about the movie is the fact that it´s just about family problems. When I saw the trailer i thought there was gonna be a girl setting off to a journey to the jungle or forest in search of something, the power of the house I guess. But once I saw the movie I thought other words. If you have read this far i might as well comment about another movie Raya the last dragon. These two movies are similar, Raya may have more action but they both still have one thing in common. The lack of trust between the characters. Yes, that lack is what makes the conflict and the movie. But at that point it just looks like Hollywood or just the filmmakers are making movies that have way too much women. With the way that things are going around the world I could understand this happening, feminism and stuff like that. If women or just the people want to make a good movie that isn´t too full of women, but also not too full of men. Make a film where both guy and gal die at the end or something. Make both suffer or just get the same effect. Like maybe something where both characters are looking to get the same thing. Both are capable, but not fully. And throughout it they´d meet, work out differences and then just work together to get what they want. Get to the end of the cause. If you are still reading, you probably noticed i have gotten off topic. A lot, but i just wanted to say, and this is public so yeah. My favorite movie is La Vida es Bella/Life is Beautiful. This is my opinion.
