@WinterStarWonderland Death isn't a villain. The real villain is Jack Horner. Death is just doing his job. If he wanted to kill Puss, he would've already done it. Once Puss lost fear of dying and accepted that he was going to die eventually, Death left him alone and accepted Puss. That's because Death was testing Puss. He wasn't going to legitimately kill him. I love how death wasn't written as a villain or a an antagonist. He was written as an overwhelming force to that sticks with Puss throughout the entire movie. Completely unwavering, and willing to kill until Puss proves his worth and respect for his last life. It's almost one of those "All in Le head" stereotypes, but done exceptionally well by giving Death a direct motive for every action that takes place. Every encounter and perceived strength of death directly correlates to how scared Puss is at the moment. Even during their final encounter death tests Puss and can see a slight hesitation/fear in his eyes as his expression changes @ 3:12 It's not until Puss takes full control of the fight when Death decides that his job is done for now. One of the best written characters in Animation that I have ever seen. I never thought I would say this, but what started as a Shrek spinoff movie has evolved into an absolute animated classic that sets the bar way higher than I ever thought it could.
