I remember standing on top of Cadillac Mountain watching the fog roll in on Labor Day Weekend summer of 80'...The Harbor was TOTALLY socked in within about 20 minutes...came in from the West...warm air hitting COLD North Atlantic waters...awesome sight but a nightmare for Mariners...fog horns blaring constantly and boats scrambling to get out of the channel...it happened twice that day...I hiked down the mountain to Bar Harbor and hid my pack in a wooded area in a Cemetery that I slept in that night(bitch of a time finding the pack in pitch black and fog😂😂😂)...I loved Bar Harbor...great video dude...thanks for shaking lose the cobwebs in my brain and reawakening some great memories...your going to have some great memories also...fair winds sir.

I grew up sailing off Mt. Desert. At the end of Somes Sound is the town of Somesville, the first settlement on the island. It's about as "quaint Maine Town" as you can get. As you headed out, you noted some boats on your starboard side, They were at Valley Cove which is a good anchorage, sometimes a free mooring's available. You can land and then hike the Acadia Mountain trail over to Echo Lake then past the beach and climb the ladders up to the top of Beech Cliff (my old summer camp is still operating and just up the lake from there). The Porcupine Islands is where you launched the drone. One of them was used for target practice by the Navy and Coast Guard during WW II. The German ship Kroninprizen Cecile anchored there when was was declared for WW I. Pretty Marsh is a nice anchorage on the West side of the island. Also go out to Swan's Island and Burnt Coat Harbor offers a nice anchorage as well. Now getting very homesick. So many awesome places to explore. Now living in Los Angeles and there's just Catalina, which is great, but lacks the variety and the ability to sail for however long you want and then just hole up somewhere.

Southwest Harbor is the place to be. Has all the services a cruiser could want. Hamilton Marine West Marine, grocery store All sorts of cell service. You went right by S/V Delos anchored in Valley Cove. You were inches away from some awesome hiking trails. If you ever get back to MDI look me up I have moorings in SWH.

In 2016 I sailed on the Issac Evans for a week in the same Maine waters. We were part of the boat parade celebrating the 200 year anniversary of the National Parks. 8 tall ships and hundreds of others in Somme Sound all at the same time it was fabulous. Hooked on sailing I’m now on my second sailboat and hope to head back to the same waters this summer.

Just think it be kind of neat to walk around there. I’ve been wanting to go there because it’s the site of a revolutionary war battle but unfortunately America lost even though the BRITs were one shot away from surrender. You could probably find out about it at the historical society in Castine.
