That's why I love hearing Fr Rob's homilies , makes you think and opens up the understanding of the Liturgy. Two thoughts occured to me as he spoke of the second appearance of Christ after his resurrection. He comes as a thief in the night. You don't know when or where he'll pop up next. He didn't tell his apostles, " see you next Sunday at three". No. He just shows up, unexpectedly, unannounced and immediately rectifies Thomas refusal to believe. And by righting this wrong he steals Thomas' heart. Jesus 's take no prisoners approach worked the same way on Saul, he revealed himself to him , blinded him so Saul could see the spiritual reality and ,like Thomas, stole his heart. Jesus knocks at our doors ( rev 3;20) and knocks. He doesn't pass through the locked doors as he did with his Apostles. He doesn't reveal himself as he did with Saul. No. Now he's polite, he waits on us to respond, the theif of hearts becomes the beggar. He approaches us , seeks us,( Mthw 7:7) asks us and knocks . At 2:50 fr Rob address baptism and how were susceptible we can be to see only the material ritual and not the supra substantial reality. Like Naaman ( 2 Kings 5:10)who was told to wash seven times in the Jordan and by his obedience , washed away his leprosy . It seems like only water being poured over our heads but the supra substantial reality is our sinful leprosy is being washed away.
