I have been in this hifi hobby 30+ years. I have owned Revel, Dynaudio, and Martin Logan speakers, just to name a few. I have owned Q Acoustics Concept 500s past 3 years, and they are my all-time favorite speakers I have ever owned.

After dozens of speakers owned and demo'd from £1000 to £18000 i finally settled on some Concept 500's. Literally every box ticked. The standouts being the soundstaging... never known speakers disappear as such.... perfect tonality and amazing dynamics.... ease of placement and drive with single ended triodes.... build quality and finish, perhaps the best version of black gloss ive ever witnessed in the history of black gloss!

Jay, im a newbie, but i totally enjoy your in depth knowledge and info, and your suggestions! I've just Retired after 37 years with a Major retail- wholsale company, not related to Wally World 😆! Im assembling my sound room from scratch now, ohhh what fun! !!! Theres so much to choose from to nuild it from ground up , nut still have a budget. I grew up extremely poor , and a very broken home, worked my fingers to the bone, while o was the first to obtain a degree from college . Yes , it was tough and heart breaking at times, but Jesus cleared a path for me, and its been a Blessing to say the least. Im having alot of fun building my little safe place and enjoying my collection of albums and tapes. Thank you for all you do and have done for so many! Godbless you and your family Jay, and keep teaching and sharing .... There's no price you could on what you've given to us all☺️👍 Take care ✝️🛐❤️🙏☺️👍

I have the concert 500s and i am so pleased with them , they are also very sensitive to equipment changes downstream . I recently swapped out my pro-ject dac box 2 for a 10 year old weiss 202 dac the difference was clearly heard , the old Weiss 202 was clearer and more liquid and dynamic . I have a Michi x5 integrated which seems to work well in my medium sized room .

Very intersting comparision with TAD (a speaker on my wishlist) and the Q's. I had the Q's for a couple of years and they're a fantastic speaker, especially at their price. I have a pair of custom built stand mounts that cost $4000 in parts when made (about five years ago) and it was A LOT closer than you'd think. I kept my customs just beause the imaging was a fraction better. Seems the TAD might not represent the step up that their price would have dictate.

given the tonal qualities you enjoy, I highly recommend you try british speakers such as Spendor and Grahm Audio.... maybe start with the LS3/5 clones and work your way up the lines. The flatest passive speakers stereophile ever measured was the Spendor D7. In my room they are perfection, play down to 25 hz with room gain, and the mids are sublime. I also love the Grahm Audio 8/1. On a side not, I am glad you use measurements to supplement your impressions.
@RennieAsh

The off axis isn't the flattest though (and there is a little bump on axis). It may be a sound you like. I have speakers that do something similar with narrow woofer directivity then widening to a tweeter. It can sound nice if done right. It's probably why the midrange sounds clearer, due to less reflections to smear

I really wish reviewers like you would try to give us a demo recording. I know a few folks have honed in on a setup, and that YT compression and myriad factors present the listener with a less-than experience (vs in-person), but I swear all nice speakers elicit similar reactions from reviewers. Not at all a criticism or you, guess it's just the paradigm of HiFi reviews over this medium :) Thanks for bringing us different tiers of speakers!

Would be interesting to know what the bad matches were just as a list. Also how does a 20w amp power these even in a small room. Would all 20w amps be able to power to same loudness and if not why not; always feels a bit like black magic. I have these speakers and currently a Sonos amp (to be upgraded) but going into shops and asking about speakers and saying I have the Sonos and then inquiring about ls50 metas they will say things like “that amp doesn’t have enough current for those” and I’m thinking they are 125w into 8 ohms, what are you talking about? Enough wattage but not enough current ?

Did you ever try the Atohm GT-1 HD? It sells in Europe for €2700 pp and it knocked me of the chair when I heard them for the first time in 2011. I played with Sonus Faber Guarneri Homage, which sounds amazing, but they cost an arm and a leg. But the Atohm GT-1HD came pretty close to the SF Guarneri. If I didn't have the Guarneri's already, I gladly would be very happy and satisfied with the Atohm.

I listened to these speakers at Florida Audio Expo, as well as the Concept 500, 50, 30. The 300 was by far my favorite. It does need a sub to deliver fullness. Midrange, highs and soundstage are excellent. Neutral transparent delivery is surprising for a speaker with a soft dome tweeter. However, for the price they're in competition with some very good new & used floorstanders. In Canada you can find floor demo Paradigm Persona 3f (retails new for $12KUSD) for $5kusd. The Persona 3f is far superior to the Concept 300 and 500.

Yes I can compare other CSS products. The 1TDx is a great speaker that gets scary close to sonus fabers or TADs (slightly more towards TADs imho) but it is not on equal grounds and while the finished versions are still amazing value, the real “WOW value” comes from building it yourself as a DIY kit.

@Jayiyagi I have just received my Brunoco Terra amp. Thanks to you, I have found the most exceptional amp in my setup. It outshines the likes of Primaluma Evo 300i, Rogue Audio Cronus magnum iii. Well hell it has more to it than my more expenaive Luxman class A solid state. I cannot wait to see your review. Thank you Jay . 16:29

I do understand that this video promotes the stand-mount speaker; specifically the "end-game" Concept 300. As I watch this review, however, I cannot help but recall Andrew Robinson's take on the Q Acoustics Concept 50 loudspeaker. He believes that the Concept 50 is "the best speaker they make" and for considerably less money than the Concept 300. The Concept 50 also takes up less space.

Hello, please, what are the three best DACs in the $500 range for a system with speakers and an integrated amplifier. Thank you

Topping E70 Velvet or a used Denafrips Ares II. SMSL Has also decent DACs in that price range.

I wouldnt touch a Topping.... heard some of their latest kit at the recent NW audio show with some Schiit amp and Goldenear Triton speakers.... NASTY sound. Flat, grey, colourless, lifeless overtly digital in the worst sense. For $500 i feel the Project Pre Box S2 digital has no equal esp if you can get the battery Accu Box psu to run it thus zero mains noise. Its a dual mono 9038Q2M from ESS and measures way beyond whats necessary but most importantly is tuned beautifully in the output area by John Westlake who knows his DAC. Topping is just a nice chip implemented by god knows who with god knows what.

Try this TERRIBLE recording and see how the Concept 300s handle it: "A Fraction Too Much Friction" by: Tim Finn 😅 Now try another recording that is INSANELY GOOD (and hear the vast improvement): "No Ordinary Love": by Alexandra Miller. This home recording is about the best there is, with a stunning image and really holographic. The treble is so clear, clean and detailed but by in no means overdone. It isn't fatiguing or over sibilant, or lacking in any way either, so clear and transparent. It should make the Concept 300s sound amazing! ❤

Excellent video, you really nailed it explaining in detail the design and performance of this speaker. I too, look forward to the concept 50 speaker review comparison against the concept 300. Cheers.

Both awesome speakers and it ultimately comes down to gear matching for both to sound really impressive but personally for me, I’d go with the concept 300s, just because I like its tone and looks better

I wonder what AI will design one day soon. Saw a video where they designed a drone frame with machine learning and it came out looking like a flying squirrel skeleton after thousands of iterations ( evolution) in the computer.
