For the food title prompt - would highly recommend Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl, and eat anything with garlic as the main flavor (so many options!). The book is about her time as the NYT food critic and how she went undercover to do her reviews, to avoid getting 'special treatment'. Really great book.

About 14:43 Books with Food in the title: -Fake Dates & Mooncakes: It's a short romance and super sweet -The books by Lauren Gilmore have most often pastry or something in the title, are on the cosy romance side -Does "A Tempest of Tea" by Hafsah Faizal count for this? -Charlie and The Chocolate Facotry by Roald Dahl -You Can't Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne There are possibly many more but that's really just all I can think of from the top of my head c:

I actually have a possible tip for the read a book slowly ( a chapter a day) one. I read multiple books at once. It has gotten a little out of hand, just quietly, and I don't usually set bookish goals but one of mine this year is to bring down my current reads number. A t the moment it is 19 or 20 books, I do not recall. Anyways, one thing that happens when you read this many books is that some remain stagnant for a time, and some you tear through at a quick pace. And sometimes, you are not making much progress in any of them. So, now finally getting to the tip for that prompt, I have one book in the rotation that I read one chapter from everyday. So at very least I am making steady pace in at least one book I am reading. That was my reread of Ruin And Rising, but now it is Wolfish which is a nonfiction. I have recently started it up again, and I am very happy that I have.

For the food in the title prompt, I recommend Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel. It's magical realism, delightfully deep and humorous at the same time. If there is an anime you like, they might have light novel spinoffs or sidestories. Some anime or manga were based on light novels. Demon Slayer has 3. Naruto has some based around specific characters. I'm not super familiar with the longer-series light novels though. Good luck~

New viewer, so not sure if you've read them or not, but for the sci-fi spot you could try the "Murderbot Diaries" series by Martha Wells. I'm not a sci-fi fan, but these are mostly novellas, and the main character is so relatable. The stories are also a little slow at first, but build up to some great action scenes. The themes are good, too.

For Japanese Light Novels I would recommend 86, either anime and light novel are really awesome. Character development and topics like guilt survivor, war, racism are well covered in a kind of dystopianish light. A recommendation for the book for chapter a day. Read an advent book! I read one around Christmas and it was amazing. I read "How Winston came home for Christmas". It's children's book. I am pretty sure the first chapter starts on November 30th, bur I still managed to read one chapter a day before bed. They were short chapters so I recommend 👍 (p.s. if you decide to read it just so you know that's the second book. The first book is called "How Winston delivered Christmas", but the "chapter-a-day" reading is still the same)

so i was talking to a few friends the other day and they all mentioned they read this book called magnetic aura. i didn’t think much of it until i realized how much more confident and magnetic they seemed. one of them got a job offer out of nowhere, and they didn’t even apply for it, the company just reached out. another started attracting amazing people into their life, like the kind of people who actually lift you up instead of draining you. honestly, it’s like something shifted in them after reading it. they don’t walk around talking about it non-stop, but it’s like you can feel it when you’re around them. i didn’t believe in that ‘energy attracts energy’ thing before, but after seeing them change, i had to wonder. if you want a little boost in your personal energy, maybe check it out. not that it’s a magic pill or anything, but it definitely made a noticeable difference for them.

For light novel: "Baccano!" I'm always hesitant to recommend this because it's not the easiest one to take in if you're not familiar with it (most readers come from watching the anime first). It's set in prohibition era New York with mafia, gang wars and craziness with a little hint of alchemy 😉. I love it, it was my whole personality like 10ish years ago 😅. There's an audiobook version too.

A book with a main character named Jesse: Broken Hearts and Zombie Parts by William Hussey. I gave this one 5 stars two years ago!! It's about a teenage friendgroup with the dream of making their own horror movie (thus zombie parts). The story explores friendship and queer romance and having insecurities abt your body - just a lot of teen angst. I highly reccomend it and I think you'll really like it!! I think the Jesse in that book is such an awesome character as well😇💞

I like doing things like these, so I may give this a try. That being said, some of these will be easy for me. For example, I love novellas. As for like reading a book with a character with the same name as me...I am literally named after a fictional and classical witch in my middle name. I could read the book I am named after, the original classical tale, and there are so many other options. It even shows up in a few disney movies my name. So that won't be hard, I just have to be in the mood for a particular fantasy. The first name...I don't see that happening. I personally would like to see you read some anthologies. I know if I were to do this, I would put a goal to read 3 of my fancy dark fantasy bind ups, because I have quite a lot of them and I haven't read many. By the way these are about 500 pages long each. But reading Lucy Undying is kind of making me want to reread Dracula, and one of those is a Bram Stoker collection. Perhaps I'll pick it up after Equal Rites (Terry Pratchett, and my next read)

For the chapter-a-day, that might suit a non-fiction well, depending on the topic! I've also saw someone advent-reading a Christmas book--each book's day was read each day leading up to Christmas. I think it was a Tessa Bailey book? Or something similar. For light novels, I recommend All You Need Is Kill. Then watch the US movie adaptation, Edge of Tomorrow! So different but so similar! Plus it's sci-fi! For short stories, I always recommend Murderbot, it's so hilarious and fun. And it's sci-fi as well! For the food title, I recommend The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. It's a standalone graphic novel, queer, super colorful and fun and obviously grilled cheese sandwiches are delish. Or, it's not food but The Midnight Feast (murder mystery/thriller) could be eaten along with a bunch of midnight snacks or something! CLOTH THE BOOKS! THEY'RE SO NEKKID! Happy New Years!! 🎉🎉🎉

I fully fell in love with sci-fi because of Arthur C. Clarke's books, he's got a few sexist comments here and there (the books are from around the 70s so I try not to get too annoyed), but his concepts are all very fascinating and his stories feel really grounded in the real world/physics. I haven’t read it though, just heard good things. For sci fi Project Hail Mary is a great like starter sci fi. It’s surprisingly wholesome and sweet. Sea of Tranquility by Emily St John Mandel is a book that I adored that is more literary sci fi. The Locked Tomb series is something I’m sure the queers have been screaming at you to read 😂 it’s just so much fun, highly recommend. It’s sci fi/ fantasy I guess, but I think it counts.
