Boeing was really counting on starting deliveries for the 777-9 in 2025. Plenty of reports have indicated that 777-300ER production has ended some time ago and existing unfulfilled orders were either converted to the 777-9 or 787-9/10. Boeing management really messed up big time and all their cost cutting and profit favoring has finally caught up to them where they literally have nothing to compete with the upcoming introduction of HGW Airbus A350-1000 coming later this year. The 777 had a lot of selling points for airlines that were unrivaled at the time of introduction. 10-across economy was only ever seen on Trijets and Quadjets, 777-300 variants rivalling the 747 in terms of range and capacity. But now, there's more competition than ever and I feel like airlines are still a bit hesitant to commit to the 777-9 as they don't know what the operating economics of the 777-9 would be compared to an A350-1000 which can also perform the same missions as the former especially with the new HGW variants that can fit 10-across economy. Ultimately, the 777-9 is in the same position as the MD-11 was back in the 90s, only this time, the rivals are more efficient composite aircraft with the same payload and range but better fuel burn and it's a matter of proving how competitive the 777-9 is to the newbreeds in pure efficiency.
@Piralloprism9 күн бұрын
The A350-1000 is a fantastic plane but you are definitely underestimating the 777x here. I mean you say it like no one wants one. I get that the A350-1000 is already out but that doesn't mean you can get one. Also the 777x already is already outselling the A350-1000 without even being out. 777x has slightly above 500 orders while the A350-1000 has had 252 orders in its lifetime (Figure includes future orders and delivered). Airbus is great and all but it's got its fair share of significant problems and it's quiet because all eyes are off them. I mean no one really noticed that Airbus just paid the largest fine recorded so far for corruption and bribing in 16 separate countries to get plane sales. Their fines and only fines were approximately $4 billion worth, not to mention that fine got about a 50% discount because they managed to self report as things were being looked at. I mean that's only one of the issues. Not to excuse Boeing as their recent management has managed to be a complete POS and they deserve the hate.
@Wheninflight9 күн бұрын
I really hope Boeing can get the 777X introduction soon. When many of these first gen 777’s and A380’s reach retirement, the more at risk they are of losing orders to the A350.
