Nice non-panic discussion! Well said! Yes, maybe 'End of Hackintosh' someday but not for a good long time. I'm still running the original white MacBook that is 32-bit-only Core Duo and can only run Snow Leopard. It's old but it's fine. It still works well but doesn't know anything about iCloud. Even if you eventually can't run a current release of macOS you can still run one of the older versions which are really still quite good. Better than mine.

As always, an excellent video. Only Apple Computer can make a "Back to the Future" presentation appear to be new. I went from apple's use of Motorla processors (i.e. 603, G3, and G4) then to apple's use of the IBM G5 processor, and afterward to apple's use of Intel processors), but never again! Why, because they always drop support for older software. This is why my current desktop is a mac mini from 2010, the last version with a built-in DVD super-drive matched with an apple 27 inch (none thunderbolt) cinema display and running OS X 10.6 snow leopard with Rosetta. This way, I can still run all of my old OS X Power PC programs plus the ones than run on Intel macs.

I love what you do! I was going to waste money trying to build a 64GB i7 Mac mini and use an eGPU to make it useable for creation. I love Macs and own several MacBook pros. Unfortunately, they age so fast on the graphics side and can’t be upgraded. eGPU is not the same performance as internal bus. I wanted a desktop Mac with the performance between the mini and the pro because of costs but there were no options for me until I found you. Your Killer build fills the gap for me until I can afford a real Mac Pro. Please don’t stop sharing. Donation incoming. Cheers!

Steve jobs said the same thing about they have more PPC products in the pipeline and support for years to come during the PPC to Intel transitions announcement , they give a time frame for about 2 years to complete the transitions, but the whole transitions takes less than a year, during that time no new PPC powered Mac announced, i feel bad for the people who bought the extremely powerful and expensive Powermac G5 at that time, as it will became obsolete in 2 years.

The article is wrong. The name of the world's fastest supercomputer is FUGAKU. I'm sure it is after checking several articles in Japanese. from Japan ---- I'll keep using my hackintosh machine which I built with your video for one more decade! --- Isnt't there any possibility that it'll be common to build a new computer with an ARM CPU released in the market not via Apple? As Ryzen showed up to be common and better than Intel... In the last decade, users had nothing to do but to purchase an Intel CPU to build a middle-range or high-range computer.

In late 2020, if you were building a new, upper-mid-level (i7/i9) h@ck!nt0sh, for everyday use (browsing, mail, adobe, some video encoding, etc.) and not a dedicated hardcore video or audio workstation, which version of MacOS would you recommend? Mojave? It seems you found Catalina very disappointing, at least at the time the 2020 Apple WWDC videos you shot were posted. Has your opinion of 10.15 changed since then (Apple released 2 security updates in the meantime)? Personally I have no issues being a generation or two behind the latest MacOS version.

I built my first Hackintosh last month! It's an Intel NUC8i7BEH running Mojave with Crucial 2 x 16GB RAM and Samsung Evo 250GB M.2 NVME SSD if anyone cares. Anway I have no intention of updating the OS, I will just carry on using it for work and also Logic/F.C Pro. I can't see myself being in the market for a new computer for another 6 years, by which time ARM Macs should have any issues ironed out and perform with the stability I expect.. and I'll probably still build an ARMintosh

Not if you want a machine that's usable NOW. Big Sur is still in the beginnings of Beta and is far from usable as a daily driver. There are people still content with running High Sierra, and Mojave. No reason to toss Catalina in the trash.

One critical note about that supercomputer. Yes, the Fugaku is nearly twice as fast as the IBM Summit with it's PowerPC processors, but it also draws almost three times as much power at 28.3kw compared to 10.1kw for Summit. I think what Apple's betting on with its ARM transititon is not so much that they can match the performance of Xeon and EPYC processors (at least not for a few years), but rather that they can get decent processors to match the i3 and i5 but with a way lower TDP and power requirements. Imagine for example a MacBook Air with a 16 hour battery! Will Apple eventually get high performance CPUs to outclass Xeon and Epyc? Probably, depending on developments from Apple, Intel, and AMD in the coming years. But there's a definite advantage to Apple's ARM designs for portable computers right now that make them really compelling for a large number of people!

I think it is worth mentioning that my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro is still getting support. No Mojave or Catalina, but High Sierra is still getting security updates, and it is still very usable as a work computer, if a little slow compared to more modern hardware. Some newer features like Apple Pay and Airdrop don't work, and you probably wouldn't want to do video editing on it, but mostly, any modern software you find still works on it. If you go 10 years before that, you get the original iBook, and that was very definitely obsolete by 2010.

the biggest reason we hackintosh is that CPU's intel were supplying to Apple were gutless and overpriced. If ARM addresses both these problems, I dont see the problem. Fugitsu made a lovely 64 core CPU with RAM chiplets on the CPU itself.. Very speedy.

Hey i have a 2015 macbook pro 15 inch but when i export in fcp x it shows that cpu is only 20 % used, i am planing on building a ryzentosh and i am afraid that using a 3700x or 3900 will be a waste if they are also capped to 20-30%. i wanted to know do FCP utilise cpu more of gpu more ? i like editing in FCP i do not want switch to windows is this a problem with my macbook only or FCP in general

Hi There, I’ve been following your Chanel lately as I’ve recently built a Hackintosh. For the most part my Hackintosh build is pretty stable. My configuration as follows: AMD Ryzen 5 1600x, Gigabyte RX 570, Mac OS Catalina installed using open core. How can I control the GPU fan speed with my Hackintosh build? I saw your other video where you talked about a command to see the Fan temps, speeds etc. Thank you for that command. My problem is- GPU idle temps around 53 C with fans at 30%, in Windows I had set to start fans spinning starting at 60C through after burner, how can I do such GPU fan control things with Mac OS? Thank you!

You could try TGPro from Tunabelly software. It's an inexpensive fan control app that lets you set custom fan profiles and it has provision to enable generic temperature sensor mode specifically for Hackintosh builds. I've used it for years with good results.

Nazdar Terezo. I had never build a Hackintosh neither PC. And right now I need a computer for video editing. Do you think think in todays price of new 27inch iMac with 10cores and radeon 5700 is even worth to build Hackintosh? When I put i9 machine together my self and buy 4k color acurate display I gonna be on almost same price. I know upgrades are not possible in iMac. Some pro-audio plugin manufacturers already stated that ARM architecture will decrease performance in comparison to the Intel architecture for their products. Let's hope this is a new beginning for Apple to cool down the crazy overcharges.But not really hopeful in all honesty.

Thanks for your insight, Teresa, and hello from your client in Oakland. Thanks for the help last year! April marked my first year of Hackintoshing, and all is well. I often forget that I'm not using Apple hardware, and it's comforting to know that I can easily upgrade or replace any parts if needed. The main apps I use professionally are Sibelius Ultimate, Dorico Pro 3.5, Pro Tools Ultimate, Digital Performer 10, and a bunch of virtual instruments (Omnisphere 2, Keyscape, Komplete, etc), and they've all been running smoothly. The few issues I've had are not Hackintosh-specific. To anyone considering getting help fromTeresa, I recommend her! This was my first-ever computer build (based on her "iMac Pro Killer"), and she helped me get up and running.

WOW! You are a boss and I can see why everyone is singing you're praises! I just watched 5 of your videos and they were so informative. I am not quite as technical as your general audience Im guessing and honestly I just don't think I know enough to build and maintain a Hackintosh. I am probably just going to have to pay the apple tax that comes along with buying an actual Mac Pro. I would however like to try and bypass some of their astronomical mark up they make us pay on upgrades. I am a music and video producer. I use Logic Pro, and Davinci Resolve primarily. I shoot 6k Red footage for most projects. Do you have a suggestion for a GPU for me? And amount of RAM I would need?
