Hope you all had a good Xmas with the difficult times. Let's all hope we can have a better new year when the boozers open 🍺 I tried to add a little humour to the video but think I'll stick to machining 😉

thank you so much for posting your videos. I'm a green horn when it comes to machining and a self taught welder. I own an excavating company ( a small business with a partner and 1 full time employee and a part time one when we need a extra help) I couldn't afford to hire a welder so I had to learn and I'm pretty good these days. I haven't had any welds brake. I recently bought a logan lathe and vertical mill and I'm grateful for all the knowledge you share. I've learned a lot of from you especially when I comes to setting up and getting my measurements set to zero to begin. I would be in heaven with a shop like yours. thank you again and look forward to seeing your new video's. happy new year from Colorado and hope your year is great.

Nice work as usual, regarding the Craven and the 72 RPM, either replace a drive pulley with a larger one or my preferred option install a variable frequency drive, few of my machines main or feed motors run direct off the mains anymore the ability to dial any speed within reason is handy even if it is just a speed change to stop some chatter that is starting. As in life there is no free lunch, the motor torque is similar to before so the horsepower is unchanged.

I think you are a bit hard on TOS lathes , superbly made from what Ive heard . Im not sure, but I think the drive on these machines goes into the gearbox first and then to the headstock, meaning that the carriage can move back and forth without the spindle turning . At last, something decent to watch on NYD ! A fabric printer's I used to work at in the 90's had a big old Laing with flat bed ways. They used to turn big old sycamore logs on it to make rolls for the printing machines. One of my first jobs there was stripping out old line shafts in the machine shop. Hey have you put your ultra long trepanning tool which you made some months ago to work now? Would be interresting to know, because some people from the office told you it wouldn't work. Had it many times before that some guys at work told me that and that would be impossible, but it DID work out- it was always a gratification.

Dear David, nice video again! Thanks for that! I see you have a Grundfos pump for the trapanning going. What sort of pressure and flow do you have? It seems like quite a huge volume of coolant.

What do you do when the machine adds a taper when doing straight passes? I have a Monarch that tapers out when turning toward the chuck and I'm hoping that can be sorted by adjusting the bed level pads.

Maestro Wills, if a rank amateur might toss an idea to try, the massive vibrations causing the screaming of the tools, if that is a problem, might be diminished by a trick from metal forging: simply slap a neodymium magnet onto the trepanning tool! This trick virtually eliminates the ringing of the anvil and maybe would cut down the noise! Just an idea if it’s of any use.

First of all Happy new year David. In what time did you complete the 10+10+10 tubes +the inbetween jobs , seem like you do it quite fast , but i still think it was more than a couple days worth of machining . I'm kinda courious about this.... Chris Maj reference , Titan burn , i don't know what it is , but i like it. :D Hope you're doing well , i wish you good everything for 2021 . ps.: what the F*** is up with this fooken' covid , i was hopeful it's gonna be over till spring , but now i'm not so sure about the whole 2021....Daily new cases are all time high up to 700000 (usually 550-700k) cases a day - all this with insufficient tests /million people (In some countries) . On an unrelated topic, a lot of 'hot' products were constantly out of stock and still are (because covid and shit). On some of these stuff the price went up 1.5-2x .
