Even though bitcoin has a supply cap of 21 million coins, it can be divided infinitely, allowing bitcoin to be debased. That is, it can be divided to 0.00000000000000001 bitcoin, making the supply infinite. Bitcoin will be worth far less than even $1000 per coin in the future. I'd stay far away from it as more and more people will realize this math problem with bitcoin. You can own any asset, but I cannot think of any asset that can be infinitely divided and shared (not a characteristic of value)

Your comment gave me the amusing mental image of insolvent BTC holders queuing up in a long line at the bakery store hoping to barter a loaf of bread in exchange for their wheelbarrow full of hard drives & memory sticks (containing hundreds of thousands of BTC).... Wheelbarrows full of paper currency lacking the power to purchase of a loaf of bread has been seen & documented before. (Zim$ for ex.)... To think any crypto currency is immune to market forces is, of course, naive. For the foreseeable future BTC & many other cryptos will be too volatile to be a store of value and very attractive to speculators or parties needing "discreet transfer" of funds. There are brave BTC investors holding on through highs & lows, I reckon in the long term they will do very well but there will be some sleepless nights along the way! The major difference that I think will separate BTC from fiats is the finite total amount of BTC. Dividing into pennies and hundredths of a penny & on & on is not a threat to value, it actually helps facilitate small value transactions like retail or person to person transactions. As long as supply is finite the value cannot be crashed by overprinting or central bank policies, other forces like Elon's tweets or a big synchronised sell off by major BTC owners will influence price short & long term.... I am not a trader or educated in economics, am I missing something? How does divisibility into smaller units than say "one cent" of a bitcoin unit make inflation risk greater?

This is the fundemebtal problem of all systems..The initial investment/purchase is made with currency. Currency is a debased unit of exchange, it is not the original. All subsequent purchases always fall short of being whole. The whole system is and was designed to be a trap...Even Bitcoin's initial introduction was 21.9 .1 short of being whole. When you purchase something, it is discharged, but not really settled. It goes on a cross for horizontal and vertical integration, ending up in the rising cost of assets. Given the last six months gold has proven to be a greater real asset to protect one's assets as opposed to Bitcoin, et al. I can hold gold my hands and no historically it has always represented wealth. What happened to most of the cyrtpocurrencies in the last year match a speculative bubble more than a sound investment.

@Daz Slater What a joke.. Looking for the "next Bitcoin" is a fool's errand. Thinking that the cost of bitcoin has peaked because of its high fiat value is a view without perspective. Look at how few people actually hold it, how few bitcoin exist, and how many people will eventually use it. A single bitcoin will be worth so much more than anyone realizes. So much that we won't think about its value in "per bitcoin" terms; we'll think and use a unit of account based in sats (Satoshis). To anyone that reads this comment, I urge you to buy even a small amount of bitcoin and put it in cold storage. Your children and grand children will thank you.
