Speak for yourself. I’m getting really, really tired of the trope that a woman has to be hurt in some way in order to become “strong”. She was already strong before Hugo died, but she was also happy and innocent, and with a preference for starting bar fights just for fun.

@@FS2K4Pilot you missed the entire plot of the movie. The movie doesn't mean to show her as "strong" after Hugo dies. She matured after she was hurt, but had been strong for a long time. The movie follows her from childhood, teenage years, young adult, full adult. The point is not for her to become strong, it's for her to change her perspective of the world she lives in and react accordingly. The bar scene, for example, is her losing her innocence and naive idealism. It's not that "a woman has to be hurt," it's that a person has to change to mature. It's not about gender, it's about a person being well written, regardless of whethere it's a man, or a woman. Hugo dying helps her recapture her childlike idealism, but with all the knowledge she's gained.

I'm currently reading the manga. Book 1 was good, the movie is surprisingly faithful unlike other manga/anime adaptations. Book 2 has the Motorball scenes, which were much more awesome than they were in the movie, and was easily better than Book 1.

Planned sequels James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez have hinted that the film could lead to multiple sequels. On February 6, 2019, they announced that they have plans for Alita: Battle Angel 2 in the future. The casting of Edward Norton in a non-speaking role as Nova in this film was intended to be a setup for the sequel. Additionally, the uncredited cameos by Michelle Rodriguez and Jai Courtney were meant to set up larger roles in a sequel. In April 2020, Christoph Waltz stated that he had not heard any discussions about a potential sequel to the film, and thought the possibility was unlikely following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox as it may not fit in with the Disney culture. However, in January 2021, the director Robert Rodriguez said that he was hoping that a sequel to the film would be made. Later on, during an interview with "The Nerdy Basement", Rodriguez claimed that he would try pitching an Alita sequel if The Book of Boba Fett series, directed by him, succeeded in "knock[ing] people's socks off". In December 2022, Rodriguez and Cameron took a virtual blood oath to make a sequel. In April 2023, producer Jon Landau confirmed that the sequel was in active development with Rodriguez and Rosa Salazar returning as director and star, respectively. In July the same year, James Cameron reiterated that he is working on more than one sequel.

@@sagnaik He didn't even have to do anything except the script, Robert Rodriguez did most of the work (and he also got his Avatar 3D design team to work on Alita's character models). I think their biggest problem was the budget, since the movie cost ~150-160 million dollars, so it's hard to convince another studio to finance it, unless Cameron paid for it out of pocket himself, or somehow convinced Disney that it's a viable project :P

I say yes because James and Robert have been teasing it for a couple of years and James is writing it...but we must be reminded that James Cameron takes forever to release a movie especially the sequel to Avatar that took 13 years...this first Alita movie was in development for roughly 20 years and rumor has it that James mentioned the Alita movie while making Titanic which was way back in the 90s...and we may have to wait for quite some time for a sequel but mind you we might get it earlier this time...at the moment he's working on so many Avatar sequels that's in the way which is the real reason why we haven't got the sequel yet but hopefully James is still alive when the sequel gets made. I know that there is a 4 year gap between avatar 3 and 4 and maybe he might make it in between those movies and use some of the money from the third avatar that he will make in order to make Alita 2.

I'd like to know in what context this movie was a flop. Who decided that, what traction did it gain? Yeah it cost a lot to make but it still doubled its budget in box office yet still no sequel? Only 11 of 33 MCU movies made more money and 15 of the 22 that didn't were made pre-covid so can't use that excuse yet they still keep churning out that garbage.

I personally haven't watched the movie yet, so I learn of it from the scenes people post - and it's usually same ones over and over, mostly the skating rink, the fight in the alley, the fight in the bar, and the crazy tube thing that hangs in the sky.
