So I've been obsessed with this game's soundtrack since I was a kid, and now that I'm a musicology major with a side hobby of chiptune composing/programming, I want to say how much this game's entire soundtrack is a technical marvel as well as a great suite of music on its own. It's hard to properly describe in a single comment how impressive RSE's orchestral sound fonts are for how limited the GBA's sound hardware is, as is the fortepiano at the very end. The soundtrack of the first two generations feels quite baroque by virtue of its limited sound capabilities, resorting to outlining chords in multiple voices, which is extremely cool on its own. The GBA era of Pokemon games definitely feels like a parallel to the break into the classical style of things, with a major focus on instrument textures and a grander, more theatric feel. It makes a lot of sense that this was the stepping stone for the series' music on its way to the really complex, jazzy, and internationally-inspired soundtracks on the DS. Also, I just realized these games came out a couple months before I was born. I guess my family was just behind on our video game collection 😅

Let's turn back the clock to 2003. I was in college and still living with my parents. Pokemon Sapphire was the first GBA game I ever owned, and I walked 45 minutes or so up to Toys 'R' Us to get it. A few weeks later I sat on a chair in a far corner of our house and listened quietly as this song played. Beyond my starter being Torchic, I don't even remember what my first Hall of Fame team was anymore. Fast forward to 2007. We're getting ready to move across the country, the trip lasting several days. Most of our stuff is packed away. I was never going to see the house that I'd lived in from junior high onward again, and I knew that. So I go back to that far corner of the house, get out Sapphire, and battle the E4 and Steven all over again. And I sit back, watch the credits scenes, listen to this song, sit on the 'The End' screen for a while, and let my memories carry me away all the while. I miss those days.

the fact that people are willing to write stories that barely anyone even comes to, and knowing that rarely anyone will pay the comments section any mind, is one of the incredible powers of music. It really brings you back, even if you haven't experienced it, it still feels like that nostalgic emotion is still there.

Yeah it sounds cleaner in ORAS, but this version means way more to me. Not only does it sound surprisingly not completely butchered by the GBA Soundchip, but the composition is not only beautiful, but it doesn't feel the need to force in renditions of the other towns' themes. The Sootopolis Piano rendition sounds particularly odd in the remake's credits theme. It's probably just my nostalgia glasses fogging me up, as Sapphire was my introduction to the Pokemon series, but I seriously think that this song just can't be topped, not even the remaster's version.

I'm taken back to that night in 2004, after dad brought me home from daycare, and after we picked up McDonalds. Dad wanted me to go wash my hands before I ate. Came back and there it was, a brand new copy of Pokemon Ruby. The first game I beat by myself, without a guide. I was so proud of myself. I lost my dad in March of 2022 (Almost a year ago at the time of writing this comment.) It wasn't always easy, but man did he give me the best childhood a single father could have given me. This game, Spyro, Mario, and, to a lesser extent, Zelda, were all titans of my childhood.

This is most certainly better than the remake version. Then again, nothing can compare to its original predecessor. It goes from calm, to really loud and out there, to signal that your adventure is over, but you still have a lot waiting out there for you, so GO DO IT! Listening to this can actually make me shed a tear or two, get chills, and cry really hard on the inside. I can't do that on the remake (sadly).

Emerald Kaizo Nuzlocker here. I played the game for 10 month with a break. It was hard, kept losing over and over and over including one full wipe to the Elite 4. But I made it back, got the victory, and seeing the credits theme with this playing over, with the all of the Pokemon I caught and lost along the way showing up.... was probably the best feeling I had since I was ten years old playing Pokemon and beating Pokemon Black for the first time, a feeling I hadn't had for over ten years

I really love how this series has so many different generations, and not only is it just a new generation of games, but also a generation of people with each game. I find it amazing how in each generation there are different aged people, fans, all within the same age range in a single generation coming together to share happy memories about these games that were their beginning for Pokémon. I never played RSE, but this game's music always makes me feel nostalgia, and a sort of tranquil feeling when I take this into account.

This has become a special kind of song for me. I got Sapphire in 2003, Ruby back in 2004, but in 2007 I started what would become one of my longest safe files on Sapphire. Around 170-190 hours if I recall correctly. My team back then would be the foundation of my Diamond team in 2007/08. Some months ago, I transferred all of them to my Moon edition, where they’re now in a special pc box for my former teams :-) Simply put - Sapphire was responsible for really ,,getting me back“ towards the Pokemon franchise and I‘m thankful being able to enjoy all these games today, up to the newest entries.

This song is better than the remakes. It's peaceful and relaxing and enjoyable and happy. But the most important thing is that it's nostalgic

Gen 3 remakes were super effective, but they took a bit of recoil damage...

When I was little I believed that Hoenn's league in Pokémon Ruby was impossible, just yesterday with my Blaziken, Aggron, Flygon, Manectric, Crawdaunt and Tropius I won the league and I remembered when the game was very difficult and my electrike and aron were always weakened . I heard this and I couldn't get more excited.

Today is my birthday and I did not want to celebrate the midnight doing nothing so I listened this theme as the last song of my 19 and the first of my twenties. Luckily midnight struck 0:52, then I closed my eyes and let the track play

I’ve been playing Pokémon games since Gold when I was 4, but Pokémon sapphire was the first one that was mine and mine alone, not shared with my brother or borrowed from my parents. That little cartridge means fucking everything to me

I remember how I would say the names of all the Pokemon as they appeared and disappeared...and then my little Torchic would appear at the end...my first Pokemon of the game, who stuck with me through every hardship and difficult battle... Oh...memories...

Pokémon Ruby my second ever game I owned, after Donkey Kong Country. I never beat it and was too young to remember much, but I got the remake and played that to death. Gen 3 was easily the best with gen 1 being second.
