I first saw this paper on Pens and Tea and thought I’d try it. I like it very much with my fountain pen note-taking and would but again. I am a fan of Cosmo Air Light, though, and it reminds me a lot of that. I’m always happy to discover more paper options that are fountain pen friendly. Thanks for a good thorough review.

Yes, I saw it on gourmet pens channel and that's why I reached out to them. I find it has many of the same qualities but it seems the not so good aspects of Cosmo Air Light aren't present in this paper.

I have a stack of endless, some are the older Tomoe River, and some are the newer Regalia. When I start a new notebook, I alternate beterrn the two.

I don’t know if it’s just me with this paper but ink takes forever to dry. I don’t notice anyone else saying this

I think because the paper is coated, the ink sits on top and takes a while to dry. But I think that's the same as other coated papers. Or do you think this takes longer than Cosmo Air Light or Tomoe River Paper?

@@seemownay I actually haven’t tried those so I’m not sure. I’ve got a Marks Edit daily on the way to replace this Endless planner. There’s definitely an interesting coating. The one I received actually have streaks on the first several pages that were like if you put Vaseline down them with a finger…. Pen wasnt showing up on that part at all.

I would recommend reaching out to the retailer to let them know about your experience with the planner. Yes, the endless Regalia paper is very sensitive to hand oils, but that should not happen out of the box. I hope you have better luck with the Mark's Edit!

i have not used Regalia paper it looks pretty good though i have had the same experience with hand oils on Cosmo Air light i still think inks tend to look best on Tomoe River.

100% agree - this is a great notebook but it is not TRP and not even close.

I've been journaling in a standard TN insert TRP 68gsm and a Cosmo Air Light Snow insert as well. All an experiment. Yes the CAL paper is "soft" to write on and with certain inks or nibs can be as you described--draggy feeling. Kind of like writing on a dry erase board. But I can overlook that given the inks show the best on it than any other paper I've tried. Got a sampler pack of many FP friendly papers from Fountain Pen Love of my choice to compare. I use a blotter under my hand while writing on either of said papers. I haven't experimented with the Regalia yet. With that said Cosmo paper is being discontinued even after being voted best FP friendly paper at the SF Pen Show in 2019. By March 2023 it will be gone--not enough demand to make it worth their effort to run the big batches they need to. I'm deciding whether to stock up on it or not atm. I do very much like the TRP 68gsm in white so that is the second runner up. Also the difference between 75 and 68gsm is more than I thought when in my TN. Still thin but there is a bit more room being taken up. Last I read the jury is still out on whether TRP 68 will continue. I hope so and think the same company that took over making the 52gsm will continue it. Thanks for the review!

Hi Paula, yes, I just got a 68gsm TRP insert and it's thicker and feels quite different. I'm curious how I feel about it once I started using it. I guess the Cosmo Air Light was never meant to be a paper for fountain pens that was just an added benefit for us FP users and we just aren't big enough to count in the paper making industry.

I have to say that's not how all hardcover notebooks are made. I think you just chose the wrong ones. I use a hardcover notebook and have for years. It does NOT have any glue issues because the signatures are sewn in. The book lies flat with no need to overstretch it and the paper is lovely. The brand is Scribbles That Matter. The Leuchtturm is so popular that I had no idea it had these glue issues. If you have a chance, you might want to give Scribbles That Matter a try. They come in 120gsm or 160gsm (which is the one most people use for art journaling; I use the 120gsm).

Yeah, I agree. I was stumped to find the glue spots in all the notebooks. Yes, they are different, some seem better, less intrusive with their gluing than others. I've since checked all notebooks I have and everyone of them that is bound with multiple signatures has the last and first page of the signatures glued. Some are very, very subtle (like the Hobonichi for instance), some are not (like this notebook). It's definitely something to be aware of if it's important to you.

I have been purchasing these notebooks for the past year or so for my ink swatching and currently inked tracking. I have nothing but positive thoughts about each. In 2023 I am going back to TRP for both purposes just to change things up. Thank you for the video!!!

Thanks for the review and comparison. I think I would use it for long form journaling with lined paper… like I have used the A5 Leuchtturm as well. But other than that I prefer softcover notebooks.

I really like the thin papers for long form journaling, so I'd have to work my way up. I'm not sure I mentioned it in the video but I have a very ambitious idea for my pen reviews and that would be a great notebook for it.
