There is a lot to love about this, but one of the biggest highlights for me is this moment at 5:09. The scavenging moments feel really authentic but this scene hits hard. The robot's being heard behind them and the calm but desperate move to hide in the trunk. I've watched this scene over and over and you can really FEEL the robot's footsteps and the power and terror behind every one. You come to a realization that if they had acted a moment too late, they would've been dead, caught out in the middle of the street with a long space between buildings and little cover. This whole scene really sells how dangerous the whole situation is.

The blue pyro that got reset is very curious to me. It acted less like a machine at that point waiting for some orders or directives and more like an actual free living thing. It looked around curious to where it was and walked to the door when it opened. It didn’t understand what the other robot was asking but understood when it was being threatened. It also was able to understand Sniper and Engineer were trying to help it. It even showed to take them as friends saving them instead of trying to free itself from the demo that was pinning them down Makes me wonder what capacity of free will and feelings these robots can have.
@edd4816 Жыл бұрын
I wonder what sniper did to it by shooting it in the head that made it change its behaviour in such a way. If it just got reset to its base programming where its only concern is self defence then that would make sense, but the way it regarded sniper and engie when it woke up and how it defended them at cost to itself makes me imagine the robots are a lot smarter than their limiting directives as murder bots otherwise suggest. Maybe they're built with capacity for conscious thought from the get go but its inhibited, for whatever reason. A bit like the read/write thing with the terminator's CPU in T2.

This brings back actual theater-quality movies with engaging characters. From Engie's "YEEHAW!" to the immersive companion survival theme, where these friends work as a unit to not only survive but thrive in a desolate city. The cinematic angles are PRIMO! The lighting and shading are *chefs kiss*. The combat scenarios tell you how important their friendships are when things go bad, which makes you like these characters so much more because of their positive character trait of friendship / loyalty. I respect that. These days, it is exceedingly challenging to find a cinematic artist with an incredible eye for detail and heart in his work. This series is a gem and worth the investment.

I watched both the endless rusts like most people and the ending is very realistic about what would happen… and that’s an extremely good thing. And I’m now just going to go on an entire monologue about the two sfm short films: When you watch the first film you are immediately introduced to the sniper and engi and who they are heck even with so little dialogue their personalities stuck out so much which really gets you immersed and attached to the thing, the robot cult in my opinion was a good idea due to this series taking place in a world where the robots of MVM managed to succeed in their goals. Another thing I really liked is how there was a mixture of robot parts and actual dead people in the city showing previous battles, lives and goals. The references to were absolutely amazing as well such as the fallout one with engi getting the digital map and also the weird robot suit things from an animation on MVM from awhile ago. And the ending… I already listed it’s realistic but some part of me thinks of what could have happened if they’d survived but then again seeing the scout and heavy from the first felt like a bitter sweat ending. Thank you so much for making this!

Heroes. Their sacrifices will be remembered by those remaining. What a great sequel! The action is easy to follow, and the story is easy to get immersed in. I was really growing attached to our Sniper and Engineer duo, with all their little acts of camaraderie, the way they looked out for each other. Their cozy little home and their unique personalities. It's a tragic, bittersweet end, having their escape snatched away right as we were watching them begin to fly, but it ends with hope for the future - another unexpected duo, that Scout and Heavy at the end. Your creations always have such a cinematic feel, and while I was watching I kept thinking how it felt like watching a movie, with all the cinematography and scene building. The corpses of old humans and bots add a lot to the implied history. I wonder what media inspired this world? Watching the giant Pyro was also such a hype moment despite his short screentime. It's easily the most pleasing to the eyes and ears SFM I've seen, it's on par with Emesis Blue, the length of which is greatly compensated by the amount of action per second in here. Your animation and storytelling skills are great. The abandoned open streets with junk everywhere, the SFX were spectacular and the pace of the story was nice. Judging by the models and mapping you or someone else did some additional modeling as well which took a lot of effort I'm guessing. You have my respect. Loved it 👍

Incredible! Fantastic story, visuals, sound design, everything! The weight of the robots I think is especially well conveyed through sound and the way they move. I love seeing the ways the tf2 community uses the characters and settings we all know and love in creative ways, it never ceases to amaze and delight. I understand that sfm is a pain in the ass to work with, but you should be very proud with what you've made!

Wow, honestly, just incredible. This has to be the most cinematic quality SFM I've ever seen. This one just exudes quality animation and cinematography. My favorite detail was the pyro-bot rolling (17:03) into the bots on the ground, not the most flashy move, but the most efficient way for a big bot to solve the problem. Also very impressed with the barrel on fire, having that move in a way that was entertaining and plausible, without feeling janky or weird. Well done, man!

The pyrobot movements really feels like it's heavily inspired by transformers ngl

Incredible world building and narrative structure; you have created a story that utilizes the tf2 aesthetic in such a unique way. I have always considered Endless rust to be one of the classics I'd get to see in my lifetime up there with Wrench in the Gears and Hoovydundy. This follow up may be the conclusion of the series, but I feel that I will not forget the giddiness I held while watching and re-watching both videos. Your craft is precious, and I would hope it is timeless as well. Whether you keep making sfm movies or not, your ability to persevere has given the community yet another reason to love the plasticity of tf2 and the creativity of those who use tf2 as a story medium.

The robot pyro waking up and basicly being sentient makes me happy.

Ray, you managed to do it once again! I've always wanted to see TF2 in a dark, slow-paced, atmospheric environment and you gave that to me with this series. I think I like this one even better than the first.

every second of this was amazing, the use of sound really added to the tension and animation was great as usual, as well as the sentence mixing, I dropped everything I was doing just to watch this, definitely worth it

This is a damn great film. Not a lot of people may see it - but it's freaking amazing and it's a delight for me to be a part of an audience who gets lucky to see it. Please, take your time - do not listen to anybody forcing you to make more SFM movies. You've already one a hell of a good job and I will rewatch it many times. Thank you for your art! :D

The first time I saw Endless Rust I was really taken aback by the quality of the animation and the creativity of a post-apocalyptic/survival take on TF2. I never would have expected a sequel, but it was wonderful. I love how Sniper and Engie's friendship isn't dwelt on much, but the detailed expressions and qwirks really give them character moments and invest me in their story (such as the moment when Engie is throwing rocks at the robot, and that little jump Sniper does when he's getting into a driving seat). Such an interesting series, and I hope there will be more of it some day.

loved the first one, loved the second one, their sacrifice to destroy a factory really wrapped up their story nicely, the malfunctioning robo pyro scene must have been my favorite, I love when one way or another enemy robot turns to side of the protagonists and either dies or is just adopted, if you ever plan on to continue with scout and heavy I bet it will also be amazing, great story telling you have
