All the actual information about what happens in combat is hidden behind the "advanced" button on the combat result screen. The result screen really only shows, well, the result. One thing to keep in mind is that the Amplitude games are designed for multiplayer way more than other 4X titles. So the interface and the gameplay is designed for pretty fast handling of turns, because you usually play with a timer in MP. And that means it only really offers the most pertinent information up front, assuming players that know all the ins-and-outs. The rest is still available, but you usually need to search through buttons tabs and tooltips to find everything.

Someone probably told you this already but you can improve the hero ships like giving better engines so you move faster

Galactic Civ 2 will be a great contrast to this game

turn 145, about a week into playing occasionally; "Turns out you can't assign heroes to ships not orbiting one of your sectors." Looking forward to your second run ;) Btw, started playing EL2 right when you dropped the first part of this run, I'm hooked on it myself for a few months at the least. Protip: put ships into the build queue before you upgrade their design if you want to build, then upgrade them when they have been built. Saves times, costs money.

In case you happen to be interested in a sci-fi game more focused on fleet tactics there is a Warhammer 40000 game called 'Battlefleet Gothic: Armada' that may be to your liking.

At 13:08 there is actually a button "I did not agree to this war", idk what it does but maybe it makes you refuse to join the war just like you wanted And yes, turns are simulatenous in all Amplitude games!

That button puts you at cold war with everyone - what I want is to be able to persuade the allies to not start the war, or at least know who/why it started or something

Has anyone seen OffyD actually swap his ship mods? Swarm fleets are still effective with decent weapons and evasion support modules, I wonder if he is using starter modules?

Having seen full quest lines, what do you think of them versus something like Stellaris?

Not really a fan of either, but i like the more scifi stellaris take. Endless has better art though!
