@@32sponge Seriously, I've always avoided the Cravers and preferred the more peaceful species but in a way they're kinda justified. The selfishness and violence of the galaxy made them this way, the Endless who everyone else worships did this horrible thing and made monsters out of them, their actions are just retribution for that. In a way the Cravers by their very existence are holding up a mirror to the rest of the galaxy and showing them that they are no better than them, and well they aren't, it's not like the other species are 100% pacifist and they do the same things, the Cravers are just honest about it. The Unfallen might be the only species in the entire galaxy that really have a leg to stand on as they are clearly the polar opposite of the Cravers and actually stand by that, I'd love if there was a quest line in the game about this where the Unfallen are species wide therapists for the Cravers.

So the Cravers are basically a more terrifying (in aesthetic) version of the Orks from 40K: Ancient beings created by an even older, extinct civilization that made everything else. Were also made for war and nothing else, and when their creators disappeared, they didn't install an Off switch for their living weapons. Both still fight to fight for fighting's sake because that's what they were created for.

Aside from that, I'm very aware of the differences between Virtuals and Concretes, but they remain Endless. If you could stop pretending to know everything better than others, it would be quite nice. But I've always considered them (both heroes and Haunts) as individuals who evolved over time, and not really like a large picture of the Endless society, which is what triggers my curiosity the most.

What I’m wondering is why the Vodyani don’t practically worship the Cravers. The Vodyani church is focused around the Virtual Endless, as their tech was used to digitize the Vodyani into their current form. So if that’s the case, wouldn’t the Vodyani see the Cravers as angels? After all, they were created by the Virtual Endless, the Vodyani’s gods, to enact their seemingly divine will and wrath upon the Concrete Endless. If the lore on this is expanded in Endless Space 3, I can guarantee it would be fascinating.

I'd draw the comparison to Xenonorphs given tech and uplifted, or to stick to 40K, Tyranids without the synaptic overmind. The reason I'm going with xenomorph specifically is because there's no Craver Waagh!, overmind, or anything like that, no ego nor superego, just pure id. There's more they have in common with xenomorphs too, the reproduction cycle that disgusted and scared the Virtuals so much they tried to bury their creation, the hive structure, there's an in-game event if you have Cravers in your empire that ends with a bishop spontaneously mutating into a queen to fill the vacant role. That type of thing.
