Payton would be my pick. Everyone knows that Sanders played for some bad teams, but Payton's teams were truly putrid until he was 30. He ran hard, was a good receiver and even passed for 8 TD's! Oh, and Payton did all this while playing in brutal Chicago weather

Barry Sanders was clearly the best, with only nine seasons he placed 3rd in total rushing yards compared to Emmit Smith who played like 13 or 14 seasons. True legend.

Fantastic list! These are the exact same 10 men that I have on my personal top 10 list, except that I can't decide between Allen and Sayers. I'm glad that you put the GOAT at #1, although I would have switched Sanders and Payton. I'm also glad that you didn't put the most overrated player in NFL history, Bo Jackson, on the list, he doesn't belong on anybody's top 10 list.
@woodglen57

Jim Brown is in my opinion by far the best running back ever. People don't realize that you shouldn't just look at stats, you also have to take a look at the team, watch a full football game with the football player in it while seeing how he impacted the game, and see how often they were injured in their career. Jim Brown had great stats, a kinda bad team, and was very consistent when it came to impacting the game while playing in the game. Most people don't even know who Jim brown is and a lot of people that do don't think he is the best running back ever. It may be just their opinion but I think Jim Brown is underrated.

Yes, Jim Brown is great and has the numbers and records. But I think he should be behind Sanders and Payton because as good as Jim Brown is, I don't think he would be that great in today's day in age of football. There wasn't good athletes back in the 50's that could stop him. Plus Football was a lot slower and different back then. Now everyone is so stronger and faster. Payton and Sanders played in the 80's and 90's where the most brutal and best defensive athletes played

For anyone who says Bo Jackson should be on this list. he shouldn't for the following reasons 1) he didn't play in the league long enough 2) he has less rushing yards in a career than most quarterbacks 3) He isn't a hall of fame running back
@gopherfan118
@gopherfan118 8 жыл бұрын
he also is only famous because he was a dual athlete. he was ATHLETIC and that's it. not hall of fame caliber but instead only famous because of a glitch in a video game. for God sakes he has less yards than Marion Barber.

Gayle Sayers was more talented them then all, but his short career due to injury keeps him out of the top 10. Guys like Emmett Smith played for teams that were great overall with coaches and great Offensive lines. Barry Sanders hands down #1 for so many reasons. He played for a horrible team, terrible coach and crappy line blocking for him. He retired in his prime and would have easily gained 20,000 yards. No question the greatest pure runner to ever play. Plus he was a gentleman and humble.

+Jaedyn Singleton how do you put Lynch on here? 4 years under 1,000 two of which he played 12-13 games and both were under 600 yards... What a superstar. We should probably put DeMarco Murray on here too!!!

jim brown played against 110 lb linebackers as of today running backs play against 230 lbders

Believe it or not, linebackers in the 60's weren't that much smaller than todays linebackers. To give you an example, Bill George played middle linebacker for the Bears in the 50s-60s and weighed 237. Giant's LB Sam Huff (played in the 50s) weighed 230, Joe Fortunato was 225..etc. These guys were definitely above the average for a linebacker, but still any NFL caliber linebacker in the 60's would be 200+ lbs. Also you have to remember the game was more physical back then.. teams ran the ball 60%-70% so Jim Brown was dealing with 9-10 men in the box on most of his plays. They knew he was gonna run it and he still dominated;
