I really have to wonder what his legal defense here was. There was phone calls, corroborating witness testimony, and a decent number of witnesses including a survivor to place him at the scene. No wonder the murder rate is so high there.

@@sad2540witness testimony isn’t enough to put someone away anymore and there was no video (and for good cause, otherwise you could just get a group of 3-4 people and blame anybody). Big Mike told and Von stayed silent. Essentially, Big Mike admitted he was there while Von never did. The murder rate is high in Chicago not because of the legal system, but more because of how close the sets are that beef. They basically go across the street, shoot someone, and run back across the street and into an apartment. Combine that with “dread head black guy” or “tall black guy” describing half or more of the people in the area, and you have a recipe for stuff like this. Long story short his defense was “witness testimony isn’t reliable”.

All they had on phone is witness testimony play somebody who already admitted to being there and shooting! His defense would simply be like no I wasn't there I don't know anybody that it looks like Big Mike is trying to put the bigger charges on von like a Fall Guy.. von knew what he was doing. He "called" (didnt text) all they can do to cooperate the witness testimony and see if a phone call was made by him at that time and where about but not what was said. It's just a whole lot of hearsay

I can’t even for a second fathom how this murderer beat his case and is free to roam the streets. All the evidence and eye witness sounds like an open shut case. If this case occurred in the suburbs outside of gang violence do you think he would’ve beat the case? His appeal was denied several times before he got out. The judge didn't grant the appeal until Von died. So actually they didn't really want neither of them out on the streets but realized King von was the real threat/menace
