This procedure is BARBARIC and NO ONE should have it without general anesthesia. I just had it done and almost vomited and fainted while having it done, nevermind the screaming in agonizing pain. 24 hours later I am still in horrible pain. I love these male doctors explaining how these procedures don't hurt, a man is clueless as to what it feels like to have a chunk ripped out of a body part they DON'T have!

Said by a male doctor. This was the most horrible test I had ever had done, it was excruciating pain which lasted about 5 minutes, they had to cut pieces of skin out of my uterus, the second they stopped, it was better, but I bled for a few days. This was shear torture for me. Mr. Male doctor imagine someone cutting little pieces of skin of your penis and see how you would like it.

This right here is what my mind can't get passed. It's not just 1 or 2 women. Yet they keep doing it with not even a warning it might be painful. For some twisted reason they're convinced if you think it will hurt then that's why it hurts. I am filled with rage right now. This should not be allowed.

Good explanation but PLEASE don’t assume that it’s not painful. Trust me it is painful… no freezing… cramping ongoing overnight, along with bleeding. Let’s play a game here Dr., and do the same procedure without freezing to your own male anatomy and all the way in scraping around… it won’t hurt - trust me - go ahead!!!! No freezing. Don’t cheat now… Try it for fun. Then, you may want to redo this video without telling us all that it doesn’t hurt.

Reading the horror stories from women sharing their traumatic experiences with gynecological procedures has me in tears. It's disgusting how women's pain is often dismissed in the healthcare industry. Female patients are told they're being "overdramatic" and aren't listened to. Instead, doctors try to gaslight women into thinking that the procedure won't be painful whilst being fully aware of how painful the procedure is for women as they see countless women and girls screaming and crying in pain during the procedure. They offer no anesthesia or pain medication for female patients. Meanwhile, men get both anesthesia and pharmaceutical grade pain medication for testicular and prostate biopsies. This blatant sexism in the healthcare industry needs to STOP. Women shouldn't be forced to suffer. Female patients deserve to be treated equally to the male patients. 😡

I cannot understand why this is done without any numbing. It is a torture. I attempted to have one done a week ago, took 600mg motrin prior, expected it to be "uncomfortable", felt like I was being stubbed in my cervix. Physician tried using a dilator to open up my cervix, I could not tolerate this pain. Actually eventually became lightheaded. He just seemed annoyed with me and said to just schedule D&C diagnostic with anesthesia. I felt depressed. Will try a different doctor, maybe they can use a numbing medication. I don't think I will be able to tolerate this otherwise. Was awful.

20 years ago I had endometrosis , fibroids on my ovaries. I had a male GYN who told me it usually they don't hurt that bad. That's was at Kaiser health so I went to the Appointment desk and told them I wanted a female GYN. I swear I would not never ever have another male Dr. As it turns out something that usually don't hurt that bad ended up being 31/2 hours of surgery. She took out 1 1/2 ovaries and endometrosis Thur out my body Now I am postmenopausal and am bleeding. I learn never say never. I am having to have a biopsy tomorrow. Have to wait almost a month and a half for this appointment, yes it is with a male. It would of been another 2 or 3 weeks if I waited for a female. My female pramily Dr know him, and said she couldn't imagine him saying things like that. Since she never steer me wrong I am trusting her. I also check him out on the hospital website , everyone of his patients who posted comment was very reassuring. With a family history of cancer I don't have forever to wait. I figure I will let him know my experience, let him know never to say something don't hurt that bad else he would find out how bad being kick in the wrong place can hurt. I also will take pain pills I take for my back as I need them before I go, taking a girl friend with me so she can drive, be there for support. I am really nervous seeing a male just because of my pass experience but I think I am covering every area I can cover. I also have to believe not all male GYN is like the one I saw 20 years ago.

Just a cramp? I know what you call “just a cramp”. There is no good reason why doctors don’t use general anesthesia. I had this procedure done in 2018, after taking an 800 Motrin, and Xanax. They were no help at all. I’m 60 years old now and still having periods that are not normal. They are once every few months, but this last one lasted 3 weeks + light spotting afterward that I’m still having. Will I go again for another biopsy? No way. Doctors must do better. This procedure does not have to be painful. What’s it gonna take? Does a man have to feel the pain before they decide it needs to be done under GA?

I just had this done a few hours ago and “uncomfortable cramping” is an understatement. They had to use clamps to dialate me and I’ve never felt a pain like that before it was not like period cramps it was like stabbing in my insides. I can’t believe they don’t sedate for this procedure :(
@Shield954
@Shield954 Жыл бұрын
The "clamp" they use is actually an instrument with two sharp prongs that stab into your cervix! Luckily, there's a new clamp device for the cervix that uses suction instead of stabbing. I would recommend only going to hospitals that offer the suction cervical clamp!

I recently had this procedure done and for me the procedure itself was a little uncomfortable with some minor cramping, however, within 15 minutes after on the drive home (myself), the cramping became so severe that I almost passed out when I got home. It was a good thing that it wasn't a long drive home otherwise I would have had to pull off the road somewhere to recover. I have a fairly high pain tolerance and did well during the procedure but nobody prepared me for the possibility of extreme pain afterwards, worst I have ever experienced in my life. Since for whatever reason women have varying physical reactions, I think it would be wise for doctors to keep their patients in the office or hospital for at least an hour following the procedure to keep an eye on them rather than just send them on their way. I took 2 ibuprofen on the way home and once I was able to stand back up off my couch I took 2 acetaminophen asap. It was a solid hour before the extreme cramping stopped.

@@sheisshan8834 this is my question as well. I have fibroids and a cyst on ovary. I've already had the external ultrasound, the transvaginal ultrasound, MRI, lots of blood work. Now they're wanting to do a biopsy before the scheduling of my hysterectomy. A few days ago they tried to do the biopsy but it wasn't successful, so now they want me to come back to see the other doctor who works in there so that she can try to do it. They say that she's a more experienced doctor and may be able to do it even though I have multiple fibroids and a tilted uterus. But I don't see why they need to do this since I've already agreed to have a hysterectomy and everything's about come out anyway. Andif the other doctor can't get a sample because of the fibroids, are they gonna tell me that they can't do my surgery? So yeah, I'm confused too. And the first biopsy attempt was very painful....I also cried. I know that every woman is different but that was my experience with it. Even though it was painful for me, it may or may not be painful for you. Good luck with everything on your journey.

Thank you for responding. I actually stopped birth control pills about 10 months ago. I was on them for 3 years prior to stopping. My cycles since stopping have been 56, 66, 42, and 90 days. I completely skipped having periods in Feb & March. In April I began spotting brown, then having a period, then spotting. This went on for 2.5 weeks. I took two BCP to try to stop the spotting, which it did for 3 days. Then I had what felt like another period from Thursday-Sunday. I have stopped bleeding completely now. Before BCP I typically only had 6 periods a year. Tomorrow is my ultrasound. Shouldn't my lining be super thin from all of this bleeding? I'm very worried it will be extremely thick. My doctor mentioned endometrial cancer. It scared me so much. I am only 28. Should I be worried about this irregular bleeding or cancer?

I'm so sorry to ask so many questions. My doctor didn't spend much time going over this with me. If I had PCOS with irregular, long cycles for my entire life, could endometrial hyperplasia/cancer develop? I am 28. I was on a BCP for 3 years prior to stopping last July. My cycles since have been 56, 66, 42, and 90 days. With the last cycle I started brown spotting for a week or so before mildly, then medium bleeding. I stupidly took 2 BCP to stop the bleeding, which it did. Then it came back on 3 days later. I was sort of heavy bleeding yesterday. It's been 3 weeks of this spotting/bleeding now. Wouldn't that mean my endometrium is super thin? I'm so confused and worried about hyperplasia/cancer.
@MedTwice
@MedTwice 10 жыл бұрын
It is doubtful you have a hyperplasia and almost impossible for you to have a cancer with what you describe, The birth control pills provide a predominately progestational environment and thin the endometrium. PCOS provides an estrogenic environment and causes endometrial thickening which can lead to hyperplasia. This takes time. You have not had any cycles over 3 months since stopping the pill which is why I doubt you have a hyperplsia. Depending on other considerations your doctor may or may not want to do an endometrila biopsy. Follow their advice, they have the full picture which I do not have,

The spotting is now only noticeable when I wipe. Could having one 90 day cycle cause hyperplasia?! I was on BCP for 4 years then had 66 and 42 day cycles. I feel like I spotted for a week, then bled for a week, and spotted for almost a week.

It is very unlikely that a hyperplasia has developed in your case. I think it is wise for you to see your doctor, Your cycles are abnormal and clearly causing you some worry. You can discus with your doctor a strategy to normalize your menstrual pattern.

I have an appointment for tomorrow. I have no idea what to expect. I'm very nervous. I've been spotting/bleeding off and on for 18 days. I had a 90 day cycle preceding this. The first week was very brown spotting. I've only had about 3 days in all that time where it's been an actual flow. I took two BCP pills to try to make it stop. It stopped for 3 days. However, now I am cramping and bleeding dark red blood. I feel like something is terribly wrong. My cycles off BCP have been 56 days, 66 days, 42 days, 90 days. I only had a 3-4 day period with all my other cycles.

I am sorry you had such a bad experience. You might opt for a D&C this time, this is done under anesthesia. If you are done with childbearing, an endometrial ablation may be a good option for you. There is information on both of these procedures at MedTwice.com.

Is this good to get a small uterine polyp on the anterior wall for a biopsy? I dont want to be sedated or put under for a hysteroscopy and I'm looking for alternative I have a saline ultrasound it wasn't bad at all. Would it feel similar? I had a endoscope biopsy awake of my stomach and handle that no problem plus I had a baby. Should I beable to handle this if I can have this done ?

I understand that this procedure is painful. For some women it is not so bad but for others it really hurts. I am sorry you are in the really hurts category. There are no good anesthetic choices. Paracervical block has not been shown to decrease the pain from an endometrial biopsy (EMB). The other choice is going to the operating room and then a D&C is performed. Most women (although not all) prefer an office EMB to the risk and inconvenience of a D&C in the operating room.

Whatever shots I was given to my cervix for my second biopsy made a huge difference in pain. Ladies - ask for the shots!! I gave natural childbirth twice and honestly, this procedure is just as bad as 10 centimeter cramping.

I'm a physician now, but before that, I worked as a counselor at an abortion clinic in Canada. Telling patients that procedures are "uncomfortable" when they're extremely painful, is more than misleading - it's unethical. You say "most women prefer an office EMB." First of all, let's be honest - that's all that's on-offer, right? You say, "the other choice is going to the operating room," but honestly - IS that really a choice you offer patients? I doubt it. Second of all, were I not a doctor, and I didn't know better (and took you at your word that "most people find it uncomfortable"), I'd probably think, OK, well, he's done hundreds of them, so he'd know... and then I'd feel very tricked. The bottom line is that it's largely about the bottom line - general anaesthetic does carry additional risks (though conscious sedation carries less), but it's also more expensive and time-consuming, which all adds-up to "less cost-effective."

A normal endometrium is about 4mm. Mine was 5 times the norm. That let my doctor know something was wrong. The procedure wasn't bad for me but that could be because my endometrium was so thick. Definitely find out why they want to do it though. I ended up having a hysterectomy shortly after.

@@user-jl8lv4ql3n Well obviously I don't agree with the procedure, mostly bc as you say, the it's unnecessarily barbaric. Doctors aren't that creative - they just follow algorithms and guidelines and currently this is the guideline for dysfunctional uterine bleeding.

@@user-jl8lv4ql3n Why are you so mad at me - I agreed with you, for God's sake?! And yeah, I know about algorithms. We learned them in med school. I can't really follow your points, when you say, "I had it done and I'm done talking," that says literally nothing. I think you just hate doctors and I can't even really blame you if that's true, but don't take out your frustration on me - I'm the one saying the procedure is barbaric. The only thing I argued was that it's probably not done for financial gain (primarily) but rather bc doctors just follow rules. And then you laughed at me as though that was somehow absurd or the use of the word algorithm was somehow me being superior. I have no idea what your deal is, but you seem to have issues with doctors. And I get it, but don't paint everyone with the same brush.

I had this done in my doctor’s office. He was very good I guess because it only took a couple of minutes and all I had was some cramping. I had cramps on and off for a day or two and a little spotting, but nothing unbearable about the whole experience. My 70+ year old mother had it after I did by the same doc. She also got along very well. I’m sure it depends on a lot of things, but just relaxing and knowing it only takes a few minutes made a big difference for us.

@Lionforaday
@Lionforaday 7 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. I'm a physician and your information is only partly correct. The cervix is relatively insensitive to touch, so yes, you can inject it and even take small biopsies from it without a lot of pain. Dilating the cervix is another matter altogether. The cervix is exquisitely sensitive to stretch, which accounts for much of the pain of labour. You describe having had surgery on your cervix, and perhaps you're referring to laser surgery after abnormal pap tests - and yes, that surgery is pretty tolerable. Going through the cervix - to put in an IUD, to do an endometrial biopsy, to do a saline ultrasound, to terminate a pregnancy - all these are painful procedures, because the cervix needs to dilate enough to allow for passage of instruments.
