PB Stands for pebax. Here pebax-beads like Reebok uses for Floatride, while Energy Floatride is e-TPU-beads like BOOST. But for Energy Floatride the TPU is different to the one used for BOOST. Saucony mentions the same as adidas. beads-based midsole holds Cushioning, Support, Flex and Performance for longer distances than injected Foam (BROOKS DYNA DNA is injected TPU). Pebax is used by Saucony for the faster shoes, while e-TPU-beads are used for Long distances shoes. Pebax is lighter than TPU but TPU holds up Performance etc. for longer distances. In Multi-Day Hikes you will experience the difference between TPU and pebax. EVA needs 24h hours to pump up as EVA looses air inside the Foam while pebax gives away some stackheight w/o loosing air. TPU keeps it's shape. TPU is cut-secure, which is pebax not. If you Catch Up a sharp Stone thru the outsole into the midsole the Stone carves a ditch into the midsole. Abrasion ist also much more higher than compared to BOOST. Very versatile is EVA as you can make even outsole Out of EVA-foam. TPU-outsoles are different to TPU-foam. Finally there is a reason why many people like adidas Litestrike, which is EVA-foam. Good for your daily Trainer and Race-Shoe. Brand new adidas adizero adios Pro has a Litestrike Pro midsole, Carbonplate from Heel towards midfood but from midfood to forefoot Brand new 5 Energy rods instead of adidas recipe of the 80's an carbonplate (an Carbonplate...which is Nike recipe of today).

The new foam from Adidas, Lightstrike and Lightstrike pro is TPU based or so the marketing says. They have Litestrike EVA as well which is confusing.

@@photopawn37 So they are on the same way like 361° (own TPU-midsole) and Brooks with their DNA AMP, which is injected TPU. adidas Trophy is (could be) back with Litestrike-midsole...☺️

@@photopawn37 adidas SL20: Litestrike (TPU, injected). adidas Terrex TWO/TWO Parley: Litestrike EVA (injected EVA). At the Saucony Endorphin Pro I was wrong. Beads-foam is out of pebax as well, like at the Speed.

Great to hear you enjoyed it. I've listened to Jared Ward talk about how not only does he think that the foam is the most important part of the Endorphin line up, but also that its rare for a company to use their best foam in their B-tier racing shoe so to speak so it was interesting to hear about your experience!

Did my first run in these this morning and agree with all from the video. A few miles at a 6:20 - 6:45 pace and it felt right at home. Definitely light enough for me to race in as well. So far, I'm a big fan of this shoe. Also doesn't hurt getting it for $120, but I think Eastbay has shut that down now.

YES!! I agree 100% on what you said about the pro - i felt like i couldnt put enough force into the plate to make it work for me as well as i wanted. It felt nicer with more force, like when running downhill etc.. I also assumed it was because i wasn't fast enough to utilise it. So now i am excited about getting the speed , hopefully has all of the good aspects of the pro , but without the drawbacks for a non elite runner. Thanks, great review

These shoes are huge here in Australia right now, my local running shoe store sold out it's entire stock of both in under 2 hours. I turned up a couple of days after they announced their availability on Facebook and nothing was left. Given we haven't had any racing since early March, I can only imagine how much people are struggling with the isolation. Anyway, I have the original Nike Zoom Fly, with the nylon plate, and find it easier to run in than my son's Next%, although the foam needs updating (I know the Zoom Fly 3 has react foam, but it still has the carbon plate. I ran a HM in my son's last November and they were ok, but not better than my old originals). At 61, I'm not even close to being as fast as I was in my 20s. Perhaps the carbon plate shoes are really best for the elites and sub-elites. I ran 73:03 for a HM in 1986, I'd be happy to run 93:03 today, that's why I'm interested in the Speed, rather than the Pro. Thanks for your great videos.

Very interesting comment about not getting full benefit out of the Endorphin Pro, i have found the same,. I need to be going at 10km pace, so that i land at the front of the foot to get the full impact of the carbon plate. At marathon pace or slower, i land further back on my foot and the shoe feels a bit dead. Whereas the Next%/4% seems to give a boost at any speed. For me, i wouldnt run a marathon in the Saucony Endorphin Pro, half mara would be the max race length,.

I’ve looked at numerous saucony speed reviews and this one knocks it out the park when you said, somewhere along the lines, that the nylon plate is more accommodating for slow/regular speed runners like myself. So thank you! I was debating between this, the pro, and the new ASICS magic speed coming out as a trainer/racer shoe (I’m an amateur looking to improve over the next few months). But anyways I always look forward to your reviews especially when you provide quality videos.

This is such a helpful review and it’s so valuable that you did incorporate some comparison with the Pro. Since I’m so light weight/efficient it makes your observations corroborate what I’ve suspected from other reviews--that I wouldn’t benefit fully from the carbon fiber plate in the Pro. Plus, other reviews suggest the Speed is more flexible and therefore more conducive to the natural gait I have with lower stack more traditional shoes. So I think I’ll be giving the Speed a try! FYI, some of those reviews specifically recommend the Speed over the Pro for a hilly course like Boston.

Though these models have been out for some time, I got the Shift-Speed-Pro box set on clearance. The Speed is my definite fav and will be my shoe for my 1st marathon next year. I concur, carbon plate shoes require a certain speed and bio-mechanical handling to make use of them. I will have to keep my Pro's for 5K 10K distance when I can run a bit faster than I do for half marathon and eventually the marathon distance. Looking forward to the live stream today Ko!

I am barely a neophyte runner, but at 210 lbs and 6’ 3” the Pro carbon plate is a dream. I have never had a shoe that actually helps me and makes running fun for the first time in years. Kofuzi you probably weigh around 135? I think for anyone under 180lbs go for the cost savings and the plastic plate; the Pro is perhaps best for heavier runners?
@biggowiggo6913
@biggowiggo6913 4 жыл бұрын
I fully agree on your analysis on the stiffness of the carbon plate vs. the nylon plate. I am not sure if it's true but I also have this feeling that when you are not able to put enough effort (either if it's caused by weight or speed) in the plate; it doesn't give the best result. It would be interesting to compare different brands of shoes and the thickness of the nylon/ carbon plates they're using but then you should also take other materials like the foam surrounding it into consideration. All in all, it's just nice to think about it and to find out what's working best for you. By the way; some things might change in time as well; once you put in 100 miles in a shoe, the parameters can change slightly. I noticed this myself with the Hoka Carbon X. Keep up the good work and stay healthy!

I now have the Pro and have done a single run in it: 5 miles around 6:20. I also thought what you said: either I haven't figured out how to control the plate yet, or I wasn't running fast enough to get its full benefit. I think it was the former at least to some degree, since it was just my first run, but it might be the latter to some degree as well. I wonder if the plate in the Pro is going to loosen up over time. I have 260 miles in my pair of the original 4% and its plate is clearly more flexible now than it was at first. Apparently Molly Seidel, who obviously is way faster but also much lighter than me (I'm a 145-50lb. guy), is doing most of her workouts in the Speed because she finds the Pro so aggressive and wants to save it for races (according to a comment she made on Strava). Maybe it's not so much speed and force as form - hip flexion, forward lean, maybe foot strike - that influence the plate?

The guy saucony used to make and test the endorphin pro is a heel striker. Maybe that’s why you don’t feel like you are loading the carbon fiber plate? Since you usually heel strike when going down hill it replicates the “proper movement” for this shoe. I’m not sure though.
@kit7579

Your thoughts on the weight loading on the plate were funny but true. Heavier runners would get the benefit of loading the stiff plate like a rubber band and then releasing it. Maybe shoe companies should start making different plate stiffness for different weights of runners but that’s going to cost companies a lot of money to make so many variations. I know the Alphafly is stiffer for the larger sizes.

Insightful! I wonder what the science behind the various carbon plates says about average runner weights and amount of downward force generated. I am sure there is some sort of sweet spot for the thickness of their plates and how much a runner weighs and the force they generate. Maybe in the future you will be able to custom order your shoes with the thickness of your choice, and or the length of the plate, shape???

I believe the TC in the 9.5 ounce range in a men’s 9, where as this is 7.8 oz. the TC is stiffer, in my opinion and feels much more like a trainer where as this one feels right at home at around marathon-half marathon pace. They both have plenty of cushion to get you through the easy miles as well

I would like to ask two questions: 1) Does the Speed model have any resemblance to the Kinvara? 2) Do you intend to analyze the Shift model in the future? Final note: From everything I've read and heard so far I think my profile is more for the Speed model than for the Pro model, as apparently happened to you.

Well Mike i've think you are on to something here... i have the same experiance. With the Pro i also feel that it is to hard for my (left and weaker) foot and it is a to hard of an effort to keep them work and give me all the benefit the plate gives. Yes the upper is great, and yes the shoe is fast but for what reason what so ever it is killing my left front foot. I don't have these problems with the Nike Vaporfly next % (or with the 4%) and the Carbon X. Although the Carbon X i use with my old Pegasus turbo 1 insoles which makes it a very nice and softer feel then standard and i use them for my long runs... the X is not so fast then the Pro but much easier on the legs and feet and the midsole isn't marked as soft but after 50 km they come to life for me. Atlleast for me that is, and in combination with the Turbo insole i must add. I think you have a good point on the Saucony Speed with the nylon plate, might be an option for me instead of the Pro. Question Mike: Do you think the Alphafly's carbon plate is softer/less stiff in compare to the Pro? Thanks mate. Ps, loving your channel

Hey kofuzi, is the saucony speed better than the peg turbo 2?
@kofuzi
@kofuzi 4 жыл бұрын
yup. perhaps depending on the workout, i could see picking the turbo 2, like 400s or shorter on a track, but for the most part, i'd pick the Speed.

Hey guys! New guy here. I don’t know much about foot wear and I’m debating what kind of shoe to get. I’m a mail carrier and I walk all day. I’ve been searching for a good shoe for comfort/durability for all day wear and I’m tired of googling and watching videos all day about shoes lol. Every time I think I found the right one I find something else that I think is better and I can’t decide. What kind of shoes or brand do you guys recommend? Please help.

That's a no brainer. The highest recommended running/walking shoe among nurses is the Hoka Bondi. If your on your feet all day and your looking for superior cushion( like walking on clouds) good support and durability then the Hoka Bondi 6 can't be beat. Mailman usually wear the black on black leather version. They also come in a black on black non leather version.

Thanks for the review! How do you think the Speeds compare to the Kinvara 11s? Took my Kinvaras a couple runs to grow on me, but now I love taking them for my daily training!!! I love that they're lightweight and plush, yet still have a responsive midsole - so versatile! Hoping the Speeds would be on the same boat but with the plate to add onto responsiveness

The Speed are very different from the Kinvara, they are firmer, taller, and have a different heel drop. But, I think the two could make a good combo for daily training and racing

Hi Kofuzi! Great channel, I just discovered it! Quick question: what do you think would be the lifepan of the Speed with its Nylon plate? same as a normal shoe (500k-800k)?
@kofuzi
@kofuzi 3 жыл бұрын
i think it will last longer than a typical daily training shoe and much longer than a typical race shoe, although it should be noted that i do not necessarily accept your valuable of what a normal shoe's life span is.

Is it a good shoe if you just want a fun springy rebound shoe to just to do 5ks at 11km/hr? If it's too much shoe for those paces what else would be that kind of shoe? I love the sound of the rebels, alphafly, vaporfly, speed, adizero prime x etc but I guess they aren't really suitable for me even though they sound great fun. Why are all of the fun exciting shoes unstable?

Could it also be that heavier people may benefit more of the Pro stiffness? Similar to Peg 37 psi difference on gender (which I relate to average weight difference)...
