The Prison Industrial Complex just loves rape, violence and cruelty. And so does the majority of Americans. Can't tell how many times I've heard or read comments by various fellow citizens who proselytize for prisoners to be raped and violated, particularly if they are in there for specific offenses. No one, even rapists, should either rape or be raped. Just because one is in prison, doesn't mean that prison should not be a safe environment for the prisoners and those employed there. Too many of my fellow Americans are utterly thoughtless, ignorant, reactionary and extremely vocal with their uninformed, cruel and foolish opinions. But, then again, "The Cruelty Is The Point". The quote is from the title of an excellent book by Adam Serwer.

Just to note - the executive orders that a US President can sign into effect are not laws! They can affect a number of things, but they are NOT meant to supersede the laws that Congress passes, merely describe how those laws are put into effect (or not) and set the policies by which the Executive branch executes the law. Thanks for this video Fran, It’s been a hard lately. I’m a trans woman who is also intersex and it feels doubly insane that both of those, especially the one that’s been an undeniable physical reality since birth. I always knew I was trans but had no idea I was intersex until I began to transition 22 years ago, turns out if your parents pretend it doesn’t exist and you don’t see other “male” genitalia you don’t know yours is only partially formed. I guess I should’ve had suspicions after being sexually assaulted in the boys bathroom in elementary school because another student thought I was in the wrong bathroom. People are so uninformed about all the physical and genetic variations of sex that are extremely common among us that it’s no wonder someone being trans gets such a knee jerk neanderthal reaction. The idea that ignorance based hatred has become public policy is astounding. We just want to live be us and live our boring ass lives, I don’t understand why that is too much to ask.

It's rough enough for us because even doctors don't fully understand we exist, even though it's a well established medical fact. I really don't envy anyone trans* or intersex in the USA right now at all, and that's not to say that here in Europe we should be complacent. The conservative movement in the US often ends up having an impact on the conservative movement here, with many of the talking points being copied almost word for word. In Belgium, they are busy talking about "anti-woke" on the far-right but they don't have any clue what it even means. Stay strong. We exist, trans* and intersex people.
