I play the guard variation a lot in Gi. I always grab around the neck, underneath the armpit though, kind of like a meat hook. Is this not possible in no gi? Or is grabbing the lat just better? Thanks!

That depends on your follow up I guess. I sometimes go for chinstraps too. But the problem might be if you grab around the neck or head in any way that you dont have an underhook if your opponent tripods or stands up when you go for their back. I myself will try both next time and see what suits me best 😊 but I just feel comfortable with the lat in no-gi
