It's time to learn a little more about a chemical reaction. How do molecules have to be arranged and how much energy do they have to collide with? What's a catalyst? Lots of great tidbits in this one.

How about a little explanation of the equation next time where you actually work out an example. The concepts are easy to comprehend, it's the math that throws most of us off.

If u understand the concepts u can also understand the math more easily and it's a bit easy to solve problems!....most of my classmates before failed in the chemical engineer's licensure examination because they focused more on problem solving rather than on basic theories and concepts, but in my part I memorized majority of the science concepts / theories that made me passed in that examination regulated by Philippine Regulation Conmission (PRC) in our country...I am not good in mathematics but I managed to become a Registered Chemical Engineer I also study problem solving but in the actual examination not all problems will come out a lot of concepts / theories....I don't know with other countries set up but this is based on my country (Philippines) .....it must be balanced theories and mathematical ability (problem solving)....

I followed every part of this comprehension equation up until the answer. I've been trying to catch my mistake for hours. Professor Dave, can you please give me a hint? Maybe you can simplify the left side of the equation? On the right side, I end up with Ea/-83.15 J/mol, therefore multiplying both sides by the -83.15 J/mol.

Professor Dave what are the common questions asked when using the Arrhenius equation and what are their equations. I have only taken basic algebra. I do not know how to manipulate the equation. Never taken calculus or physics. Can you help please.
@ProfessorDaveExplains
@ProfessorDaveExplains 7 жыл бұрын
you don't need any calculus! it's just algebra. i am releasing an ultra-comprehensive mathematics series as we speak, if you watch some of those you will gain all the math skills you will ever need for science! i'm in the middle of algebra right now, so at least get through those. natural logs are just logarithms with base e, and i will get to those pretty soon too.

Hi, watching this video reminds me of a discussion i had with my teacher. In every book i readed so far i learned that a catalyst gives a other reaction way. My teacher said thats wrong and there are many examples proof that. But actually i dont wanted to piss her of more cause i dont want to loose my A in this class. So i didnt ask for any examples. Can u give me some or is my opinion on catalyst right and my teacher has no idea ? ;)
@ProfessorDaveExplains
@ProfessorDaveExplains 8 жыл бұрын
+Wiz Onio sometimes a catalyst offers an alternate reaction pathway, but not always. for example, an enzyme, which is just a protein that performs some cellular catalytic function, can promote a reaction in some complicated way, or sometimes it just bends a substrate until it's in an energetically unfavorable conformation such that the reaction becomes more favorable. the best definition of a catalyst that applies to every example is that it is something that lowers the activation energy of a reaction.
