@JuliusFawcett Anyone that's for clean and green energy should put their support firmly behind Nuclear power. Offshore wind farms are a maintenance nightmare. On shore wind farms are a complete eyesore. Solar panels are an unrecyclable money pit. And all of these renewable options depend on specific weather conditions to produce power.

Miliband is not the only clueless Stasi who thinks we are too thick to do the arithmetic. £300 will not offset the rises over the next 5 years.
@JuliusFawcett10 күн бұрын
Whatever the cost, it is actually still the right thing to do. We have already invested in Sizewell and Hinkley Point nuclear reactors and to have the right mix of clean energy supplies of wind, solar and batteries, this is the international standard we must meet to compete and insulates us from volatile oil and gas prices, it's actually the most exciting bit of politics I can remember

@T5Zplayer it's scary times for everyone on less than average income, and Eds investment now will lead to lower energy prices in 5 years time, which is promising. @JuliusFawcett10 күн бұрын
The Ukraine war disrupted world supply lines and spiked energy prices, Ed is taking the bold, and correct move, to secure our future energy supply with low polluting, cleaner energy, this won't be cheap now, just as putting panels on your roof would be expensive, but in 5 years we will harvest very good, diverse supply of competitively priced energy, it is the right strategy and I commend it

In our country, the lie has become not just moral category, but the pillar industry of this country.” ― Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
But this is an example of really good government, investing in large solar, wind and battery tech is future proofing our energy supply against oil and gas price volatility which is disgustingly dirty and bad for the planet and supports a crazy dictator putin who wants to use the oil money to build nukes aimed at us

For those with a short memory. When the energy prices spiked in 2022/23 it wasn't due to the price of wind going up. If I remember, energy supply companies went bust, factories closed, agricultural fertilizer prices hit record levels and the government had to step in to subsidise domestic energy bills which cost 10's of billions of pounds for which we are all still paying. Being so dependent on a strategic resource which is outside our control is a bad idea. People of all political persuasions might agree on this. Anyone still watching black and white tv and using corded landlines should find out about the latest technology and that smart tariffs can already reduce your electricity bill by factor of 2. This is only due to cheap off peak electricity, generated by renewables and enabled by smart metering.

We will have paid 10 fold financially and environmentally if this plan is brought to fruition. We need a mix of energy for energy security. There will be no saving to the public, any change in bills will be offset by increased taxation to pay for it, time and again as hardware needs replacing ( I shudder to think of th eamount we have silently paid already ) . The energy dashboard this week should warn people that Milliband's plan will not work as hardly any solar or wind energy has been produced for nearly a week. If the public don't wake up and get taken in by his plan then we are doomed as a nation and there will be no economy left to speak of

And the Russians haven't even taken out the less than half a dozen Gas blowers or the less than half a dozen European Grid Interconnects. A single IRBM as recently demonstrated in the Ukraine.
