Its quite an irony that the majority of motorcyclists that I see who ride with loud pipes in order to 'save their lives' do not wear helmets or proper riding safety gear. If these folks were really concerned about saving their lives, they would do a few things that would protect them more than proselytizing about loud pipes, (which by the way has never proven to prevent an accident) Statistics have shown that being SEEN by drivers is what reduces accidents -so wear reflective gear, add more lights to your motorcycle and use the only sound device which has proven to let other drivers know your around, the HORN! The horn faces forward, directing most of the sound where drivers can hear it, rather than rearward facing exhaust pipes where most of the sound energy goes backwards.

I keep seeing people like yourself who can’t accept that loud bikes add to them being noticed. The idea is never accepted instead you gloss over it with shots at the bikers who make these claims and bring up points that don’t actually disprove that people do notice a loud bike over a quieter bike. To be perfectly honest the " Loud Pipes Save Lives " statement is a bloody joke !. I have been riding for nearly 40 years , I've never had a loud bike BUT I never rode like a dick either. Today most cars are so quiet inside sound insulation wise that it would make no difference. I'd really like to see some actual statistics on Cycle incidents and see if there is any correlation between exhaust note and safety.

@@bradboisvert4892 an easy solution for this problem is to simply NOT ride in a position where you cannot see the driver's head either directly or in the mirror, has worked for me . I absolutely never assume I have been either seen or heard. We rider's tend to have our heads on a swivel where most cager's have bloody tunnel vision. Truck and Coach driver's s less so because they are much more aware of their blind spots. . Oh as for the Horn mate I have Air Horns on my bike and trust me they get attention when needed.

The noise is an issue and add the radios and it ruins neighborhoods. It puts people on edge, ruins their sleep and business/property values. They don't get a noise exemption any more than any other vehicle. I no longer have any respect or desire for anything HD. I know many HD owners and every one of them likes it because it sounds cool, something to show off to each other and piss off others. Another reason is those that who pride themselves as being rebels want to be like others, ok. Adults with an insecure child mentality and lack of respect for others. Right. It goes much deeper than simply being a nuisance or annoying. It's very harmful in a myraid of ways. I recently moved to Las Vegas (and not even near the strip) and I'm very close to catching a murder charge over these selfish, noise polluting heathens. The noise is constant...day and night. Weeknights included. I'm beyond sick of it and I need to move back to Houston asap. You can hear most of them from half a mile away. It sounds like a damn demon roaring. Of course, the cops are useless and do nothing about it- giving these asshoels free reign to terrorize neighborhoods. The airplanes that fly low near the airport aren't even as loud as these cars and bikes. How insanely disturbing is that? It's disgusting.

Nope - they're not liable and can't be held accountable. If you go to the websites of these companies, look on the catalog pages for the pipes, look at their packaging/advertising materials and sometimes the items themselves you will see that they are marked as being for "off-road use only" (racing, bike shows, parked in front of your house, non-public trails or public trails designated for vehicle use). There would have to proof that the companies specifically intended for the products to be used on-road in violation of laws against their use. Now, if you want to try a class action or have the wherewithal to bring your own suit against each company, there is that.

@Forsaken Warlord5 depending on how loud the motorcycle is, the exhaust can surpass wind noise even up to 100 KM/H. Lots of super loud bikes can surpass 85-90 DB at idle and are louder when moving, while wind noise at 100 KM/H can be from 80-105 DB edit: even full face helmets don't muffle sound enough to prevent hearing damage. If you're on a bike that idles at 90 DB and have an open helmet (what most old dudes on bikes wear) they're definitely going to have permanent hearing damage from prolonged noise.

I literally fantasize about harming bikers and drivers of super loud modded sports cars. I watch videos of them crashing and laugh myself into a frenzy. Zero empathy for them bcuz they have have zero empathy for how their noise pollution effects others. It's more than a mere irritant. It triggers my anxiety and keeps me up at night. I'm not a psyhco or a sociopath. At my core I'm a very laid back, easy going individual but folks who screw with my quality of life bring out the dark side. I feel perfectly justified in my deep hatred for these heathens and I fear the day one of them triggers me at the absolute worst time. I pity any future neighbor of mine with a loud car or bike. I'll give them a 1 or 2 chances to be a considerate human being. Personally, I hate all the unnecessary noise. You can't even talk to each other in the car, or listen to your own music. Scientists are now telling us how loud, booming stereos and exhaust systems are changing our brains and physicality for the worse. It actually causes measurable changes in your brain for the worse, in addition to causing physical and emotional distress. Not even to state the obvious permanent hearing loss. It also drives away wildlife, leaving animals to desert their young, and interrupt breeding cycles. These are proved by scientific data, that any person can look up on the internet. It is one thing if you want brain and hearing damage. You can pour gasoline on yourself, and light yourself on fire, if you need attention that badly. But allow innocent persons and wildlife to be healthy, and not be sickened by your narcissism and need for constant attention.

The standard pipes are loud enough, especially since cars are designed to keep that specific sound out of the cabin. So no matter how loud it is, it'll be dampened. A better solution? Fine loud pipes and REALLY INCREASE the fines on people texting while driving or otherwise distracted. Also make bicycle/Cycle safety part of learning how to drive. And YES I also hate loud pipes on cars, those have no excuse whatsoever.

It should be a part of learning how to drive to look around you and see things smaller than yourself. Many people now step into huge trucks not having learned how to drive them defensively and that they have blind spots. These things need to be taught. Also things like texting and driving should be fined far higher, and a repeat offender maybe get community service/jail time. They don't realize they are driving thousands of pounds of metal around at high speeds.

I think having a bigger sound is much more appealing. Just as long as it isn’t too obnoxious. I’ve owned many motorcycles, some loud and some quiet. Cruising on a super loud bike is only fun for the first 10 minutes. Then it becomes ear piercing noise that just isn’t very enjoyable. I’m talking About cruising on a bike, not racing it. If it’s a race bike or anything high performance, I say go all out on the exhaust. At the same time, riding a quiet bike is kinda boring. It makes me feel like I’m riding something with no personality. I prefer to listen to the engine roar as long as it ain’t so loud that it hurts my ears. So I’m kinda in the middle when it comes to sound. Not quiet and boring but not so loud that the vibrations shake the fillings out of my teeth. That’s just my 2 cents.

Untrue. The sound is coming out from the rear and not the front. If you want the approaching traffic from the front to hear you, then reverse your exhaust so that the sound is in front of you.

I run loud pipes on my Harley for a reason. And that reason is for all the people with their thumping loud stereo equipment in their vehicles. And also for all the idiots not paying attention while driving and texting on their cell phones that are super glued to their hands. I want to be seen, I want to be heard. And I want to be noticed. And I will do whatever possible to do so until my complaints are addressed and stopped. Loud pipes does save lives.

I call slurry BS on your thesis. It actually harms lives. It triggers my anxiety, my misphonia and it keeps me up at night bcuz I love close to a busy road that bikers love to use at late hours when there aren't as many cars out. I'm not a psyhco or a sociopath. At my core I'm a very laid back, easy going individual but folks who screw with my quality of life bring out the dark side. I feel perfectly justified in my deep hatred for these heathens and I fear the day one of them triggers me at the absolute worst time. I pity any future neighbor of mine with a loud car or bike. I'll give them a 1 or 2 chances to be a considerate human being. If it fails and they choose to stay glued to their arrogance, it will be one of those tragic neighbor-rage stories that'll make the news.
