@@Healcannon JD *had* been doing this sort of thing for so long - keep in mind he's basically been out of the StarCraft circuit for 2 years, and in the Military he probably didn't do any kind of large group public speaking or presenting. Suddenly being on the Big Stage alongside the pressure he must be getting - intentionally or not - from everyone around him, it's understandable for him to have some "Am I really still as good as I was? Can I do this again?" style doubts. It's definitely impressive that he was willing admit in the interview that he himself might end up being his greatest enemy during this tournament, you usually don't see that kind of vulnerability and openness from professionals in those kind of situations.

Last map pivoted when Mong let go of 3 o'clock, which then meant that he didn't have the presence/vision on that side of the map anymore, which let Soulkey get the drop in the main, and while not fatal that attack still knocked Mong down enough that he could never truly rebuild his tank lines. If Mong has coverage on the right side to see that drop coming in he wins. Great game.

I thought it was sloppy from both soulkey and mong. Starting from the moment mong left his bio sitting on highground for a full minute, not putting pressure on, and not defending, just to have them surrounded and killed. As for soulkey, it felt like he knew what he wanted to do, the drop play. But couldn't figure out how to do it. So instead he just sent wave after wave of units with no clear goal and no darkswarm. But after he got the main drop off it looked like he went: "Oh, well, now that's done, time to play the game." and you see defilers start moving on the map and from there it was just over.

I was gonna comment on how Artosis is so confident about JvZ when I've watched him get eliminated by HoGiL, Hydra, Action etc but the interview man, the moment JD said "the greatest enemy is myself" I suddenly felt the burden he must've been carrying for god knows how long, probably for as far back as when he was expected to take some championships off Flash when all the finals were FvJ around 2010. Hope he does well and that the rest of his fans appreciate his efforts regardless of result.
@BobfromSydney2 жыл бұрын
He had a serious wrist injury in the past and I noticed that in a lot of ZvZ's in previous seasons JD would "cheese" a lot with all-in builds rather than play a long game with lots of Muta/Scourge fights. I suspect this might have been to limit the strain on his wrist and having to micro the muta fights, which would have been hard for him. I suspect this might be part of the reason why he said his greatest enemy is himself, he might be referring to his body condition when he said that. Hopefully he is recovered now because it looks like is micro is really polished at the moment.

I really disagree with the analysis of Soulkey's position against Mong in the last match. Soulkey did lose 2 more drones, but he made considerably fewer lings both in response to the bunker rush, and through the rest of the early game. The initial damage might have been greater but he just stuck with his drone micro and drone macro as well.

But then the game stabilized and turned into the best game of the ASL so far. Well played by both Mong and SK. I remember saying at 2:21:10 that this pickup and drop on the tank on the ledge will win him the game if he wins. Those units lured enough away from the front and attacking lings that the lings were able to penetrate deep. Mong was soooooo close to winning as well.
