The origin of archery („kyujutsu") is the deadly battle on the battlefield. Today there are no archers in war. For this reason, another component has been attributed to „Kyudo" for many years: Zen. First you have to learn correct shooting: 4 arrows -> 4 hits - then you can meditate why you missed. Meditation does not replace bad shooting.

This is a good reply:, however please do not think meditation is just one thing. Meditation is part of the progress. There are many styles and ways to meditate. There is sitting meditation, standing meditation, walking meditation. Doing Tai chi is meditation, doing Kung Fu or Karate is meditation doing dishes or gardening can be meditation . You meditate before doing Kyudo, while doing Kyudo and after doing Kyudo, not just after you miss to understand why you missed, but also when you hit to understand why. One’s mind should be in a constant state of meditation, sometimes, active, sometimes passive. Flowing like Yin and Yang. You are very correct in that meditation does not replace bad shooting. thank you for your comment. 🙏🏾

Under the term Kyudo I think there are a variety of manifestations: There are - the hitting-oriented competition of school and university teams as well as individual shooters up to world championships, - the aesthetically oriented use of the yumi in ceremonial shooting for kyudo demonstration, - the use of the longbow in Shinto ceremonies or with a Zen Buddhist background - and also - the war shooting in full armor in medieval style. All that is kyudo! So Zen is only a part of Kyudo - if at all. However, one earns a lot of money with Kyudo=Zen, especially in the USA!

@@kyudodetmold I think the type of Japanese archery that's more to do with the martial aspect is called Kyu Jutsu and was practised by the Samurai class , not Kyudo. Kyudo is Zen Archery. And other Japanese arts like Karate-Do, Aikido, flower arranging and the tea ceremony etc are all linked to the Zen. It's all about moving Zen, taking the practice of stationary, still Za Zen into movement. Zen can be practiced in whatever you are doing in the moment, washing the dishes, doing gardening, bonsai, walking, anything.

Seems really great. He is getting a lot out of it. I hope he can spread Kyudo to more people from his culture.
Well, Most of the hate crimes in America against Asians are actually committed by Black people. They had a social movement for a while called "Stop Asian Hate" and then it was revealed that it was black people committing the hate crimes so the movement was shut down. White people actually admire Asian people, So much that far left "Anti-Racists" call now Asian people "White Adjacent" meaning Asian people are essentially White and so they are also "bad" like White people. I don't know much about Kurdish people, But they're country is extremely violent as a result of their nationalism and religious views. It should be no surprise that they would carry this violence over to Japan. I hope they can work out their differences with Turkey and get their own land and live a peaceful life there. But Islam is not compatible with any other culture, It is extremely intolerant and demands that everyone submit to it. It is a colonizing force.
