Part 2 of full review of Integra Type R DC2 released in late 1995.
BM hosts Motoharu Kurosawa and Takayuki Oi talk with Honda chief engineer Uehara Shigeru about the development of Type R version. The topics are chassis, body aerodynamics, suspension, dampers, bushings and engine improvements.
Engine improvements:
- single port intake manifold
- enlarged air intake diameter
- throttle body size up
- changed valve seat angles
- air intake shape made more straight
- air intake sucking the air from inside the fender
- exhaust system all pipes diameter up
- specially fabricated exhaust without sharp angles
- high volume rear silencer (new type)
- stainless steel full exhaust system
- special lightweight valves (intake side)
- double oval valve springs (intake side)
- SiR intake valve springs used on exhaust side
- increased compression ratio due to the changed piston shape
- more efficient lubrication of the piston area
- molybdenum coating on piston skirts
- high temperature platinum spark plugs
- conrods made from special high tensile steel
- 8 counterweights for full balanced crankshaft
- port shape, steps and roughness buffed out
- conrod bolts fastened manually

So much engineering, carefulness and hard work was put in those Integras. Makes you respect those machines. Pretty sure that no other car received such treatment after this Integra and EK9.

Well if you can't throw it in a Civic or an Integra, the next best thing is an Elise or an Exige, especially the S1s.

does anybody know where i can get the green and white honda hat the engineer that is buffing the port is wearing?

ive looked around and you sometimes find ones online , most are fakes . the real ones will be used . iam pretty confident that this is something that employee's get only . i do not think they are sold. and just in the r&d and more hand on applications . they wear them when they f1 bench test as well . if you happen to find some hit me up.

I might import a '95 Integra Type R to the USA in the year 2020, and then a '04 Integra Type R in the year 2029. If I live that long. I'm 31 now :)
