The difference between the 2 performances is that with So Hyang, the magic was lost. You cannot imagine magical things with it, it became a different song with a different vibe. With Morissette's you can still close your eyes and reminisce about the animation, just like the original version of Lea Salonga, the magic is there.

I guess they sang it more in that concert to show their own style and color instead of to relay the original message and feeling. I agree though, the part that I noticed the loss the most was when So Hyang sang "soaring, tumbling, freewheeling through an endless diamond sky." She really changed it up, but in the musical and the animated film and the way Morisette did it, when the word SOARING is sang you feel a lift, and when the words TUMBLING and FREEWHEELING are sang you feel the roundness. You can almost feel like you are in the outdoors, and when they sing "through an endless diamond sky," by the word SKY you really feel like the singer looked across the horizon. I like So Hyang (I love her Arirang and her Go Back Couple OST) though, hope no one gets me wrong. Just that I love this song for the imagery it provokes.

Mori was story telling while So Hyang was like more of trying to make it RNB which doesnt suit the song. The emotion is off, just throwing the notes and lyrics without arranging with the orchestra. It's sad the male singer was on point while Sohyang was all over the places.. Not hating here, I've seen her(Sohyang) couple of times with Charice. She's lacking at some point.

Darren and Morisette sang it like story telling, expressing the feeling like talking musically, so very smooth and balance. While Hyo Shin and So Hyang sang it more like as a performance, so they’re likely to show what their range and styles are. all are good singers :)

Korean singers aren't expressing the magic that lies in singing the theme song. They seems to just show what they can do as to the range of voice , and singing it like R and B which is not soothing to listen to when singing this kind of song. Morisette and Daryls version suit the real way of interpreting the song.

It cannot be compared. Morisette and Darren’s version is for Disney’s animated movie, so it has to sound Disney. They were both asked by Disney to sing the theme song. While So Hyang and the Korean guy is more pop, more of the original Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle’s version, thus sounds R&B and more colorfoul as you described. Morisette and Darren’s voices are very clear while So Hyang’s more nasal tone.

With all due respect, you can still compare it. The 1st one sounded like the real Disney soundtrack while the 2nd one is not really close to Regina Belle's rendition. The guy is somewhat gave justice to Peabo but So Hyang didn't to Regina. Heard So Hyang singing so many times, she is very good and has excellent high pitch. Her English diction is poor though. A professional singer who likes to cover English songs should be at least has descent diction regardless of what country she is from.

Morisette explained it in a vlog that they cannot deviate from Disney's approved style. Not even a single note of deviation allowed. They were tapped as the official singers of the song in the Philippines. So Hyang's voice is a bit too nasal for my taste. But she can hit the high notes for sure.

When you first showed us this video I was also surprised, it's so different to So Hyang's Immortal Songs performances. hehe and I agree, the mood was so different. When So Hyang started doing the performance gestures as Park Hyo Shin was singing I also couldn't help but laugh a bit. Unfortunate that there was a bit of a language barrier too that English speakers will likely notice. It took me out of the performance when I heard the small mistakes in the lyrics (and even where they chose to cut and put adlibs) because the meaning got blocked. No doubt they could have maintained the Disney magic feel (they're both super strong singers) but that was obviously not the goal in that performance. I would love to hear them sing it in the more Aladdin way too.
