WHAT I THINK THE STORY IS ABOUT In the behind the scene IU says that the story is that she lost all her memories and she’s downloading them.. so she’s remembering them, some fans think that in the animation part that the airplane is where life is going and when the plane start to shake it indicates how life is tough sometime, the lizard disappears in those moment which indicates that’s it gone which people think it’s about Jonghyun who sadly died from depression. The animated girl in the white dress is Sulli where first she is going fiercely throughout the jungle and then she couldn’t take it anymore, she jumped where a moon is reflected behind her which maybe about the last place IU saw her (hotel del Luna as a guest star) then the dragon(jonghyun) catches her and they meet in the after life basically, and IU asked “are you happy now?” Lastly the dragon and the plane where IU is in are going to different direction which indicates life and death. Although they’re painful memories IU still wants to keep them so when she meets them she’ll know them in the island where no sad ending(heaven). Feel free to share your opinion. Also... he actually is in the video, in the animation part in the airplane, SUGA is the person holding the phone sitting across from IU. I also wish his verse was longer, but i also really like how he fit his rapping style to the song. It would take me one hour to type all the things that are going on in the video but yes, it's a very beautiful song and mv. Just as an edit because I didn't see anyone mention it: "all electronics off" and the storm outside compared to the inside, hate comments and people not knowing that others might be hurting until they are gone (plane in the storm, lizard is gone)

i've heard from others that this song is directly referencing IU's late friends Jonghyun and Sulli. it's implied that the girl in white dress is Sulli and the dragon is Jonghyun. (dragon is his favorite) . the song is about how IU has to face the fact that her friends are dead . as you can see in the mv, IU is in the airplane and she sees Sulli flying happily with the dragon (Jonghyun) . she's sad but also smiling bcs she's now assured that her friends are now in a better place . there are more references in the mv . it's my interpretation tho, everyone has different opinions . :)

Thanks for the reaction! The song is very bittersweet but yet hopeful. I think their lyrics are written to encompass more.. in terms of dealing with loss of people/ relationship/ younger self etc ... so many people can relate to it especially in the current situation. And it’s an interesting harmony/ sound between IU & Suga which I would love to see more of.

SayWhimisico - you and me both!! I can’t explain why, but I have this feeling that this song will be continued but from Suga’s perspective. Maybe a solo track from Agust D where IU becomes the featured artist. 2:48 for a song just seems too short and the ending of the song doesn’t feel complete to me, but then again, I could be completely off base and just wishfully thinking here!!

As always, I love your commentary and reactions! CM reacting with such WOW when Sean mentioned the 8 being a Mobius strip (or infinity sign) was adorable. I loved hearing CM talk about how IU was a comfort to him in the military and then fanboy during the song. I do wish Suga's part was longer - but I think it is also representative of how short their time was together - in the story of the song. That a memory is just a short glimpse and leaves you longing for more. The song makes me sad and yet happy. Hope you're all doing well and staying healthy! it's funny how you immediately concluded that she was talking about a break up because a lot of (pop) songs are about break ups but as a long time fan of bts and a long time fan of songs that don't talk about romantic relationships i didn't even think about the possibility that it could be hahaha i guess everyone has their own interpretations and that's what i love about songs and good lyrics, you can take it and make it your own and apply them to your own life and experiences

can everyone stop excluding goo hara? she was iu's friend too and it's clear she's talking about her longtime deceased friends sulli, jonghyun AND hara. she saw them in the clouds and smiled at them because she was meeting them again and hope to keep their memories together forever. the girl could represent both women while the dragon represents jonghyun. i'm not sure how the lizard connects. the 8 represents her 8 year friendship with sulli and her and suga's age 28 (93z). the 8 flipped horizontally is the infinity sign like sean said which means forever so she'll always have their memories with her.

IU is amazing, as usual, she's queen, and a great lyricist like Suga, but I want to talk about Suga's rap (+BTS rapline). If you listen to a lot of BTS song, you'll know that BTS is really good at making the rap parts 'part' of the song, instead of a randomly placed beat & rap like some kpop songs. Rap in BTS songs is not there as an addition, it's a central part of their songs. That is all.
