I'm so upset he had to apologize for something he didn't even do just because SM didn't take care of the rumors properly. I can see he still feels regretful about certain things and that's probably why he still went along with the apology, but they should of at least clarified this sooner, instead of making him go through so much emotional burden with all the hate he was getting for no reason. I guess better late than never. I really hope he can get past this now. Even so, this entire time I was trying to be forgiving and open-minded thinking he really had done this, so I'm really glad I didn't let myself dislike him. Past mistakes shouldn't be held over people's heads for the rest of their lives. People make mistakes and they learn and grow.

I'm getting annoyed seeing people say "he apologized so many times so let it go" when talking about Taeyong. The boy can apologize as many times as he wants, but if it isn't sincere then it doesn't mean anything. He cried during his last apology, but even I can cry at will so... I just don't know if it's possible for this kid to change. People also say "i'm sure we've all done things we're not proud of". Yes I have done things I'm not proud of... But I didn't do anything illegal at 13, and most 13 year olds don't commit a crime on multiple occasions. He also planned it all out in a calculated way. That's not a mistake. That is a flaw in character. And character flaws aren't exactly the easiest thing to change. People blindly defending him need to take a step back and really think about his past behavior. By saying "oh it's okay oppa", you are allowing him to think "If I could get away with that, I can get away with anything" Is it possible he changed? Maybe. Do I think he actually has changed? Unlikely.

To clarify, I'm an exol in the process of also becoming a NCTzen (I welcome recommendations of shows and interviews and anything else to get to know the boys). Anyway, I was talking to a friend about NCT last year and mentioned Taeyong (I didn't know anything about him back then) and she mentioned the scandal. I was curious and looked it up, expecting to find the worst, tbh. What I found, though, made me sad. I couldn't believe people were bashing him so badly for something he did when he was like 14. He's clearly grown up and reflected on the matter. From my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong), he didn't scam anyone and the other stuff was misunderstood. Either way, he clearly regrets what happened and has worked to become a responsible adult who can be a role model for his fans and his juniors. People need to stop blaming him for this. He feels guilty enough already. Also, I'm so happy to see that his fans stuck by his side despite all this. It's good to see that the fans know who he's become as a person and understand that everyone's made mistakes (I have my fair share that I regret deeply) and that acknowleding them and using them as an example to not make them again is an amazing character trait that this beautiful young man clearly has (Yeah, maybe I'm slowly falling in love with him. Sue me)

If everyone was like you and judged a person from their pasts faults, you’d never get to see how good a person they really are. People don’t stay the same, they change. I don't follow nct that closely, only really watch videos of them when they make a comeback. But I've definitely noticed how Taeyong seems to work extra extra hard to make up for the negative attention his rumors created for his group. I know he will always be hard on himself for it but it's good to see that his members are there for him and make it clear how much they look up to him. He's a sweet, hard-working, very talented kid. As much as I agree that owning up to your mistakes and trying your best to be a better person is a great way to handle your errors and improve as a person, I think it's important to know that Taeyong actually didn't do anything. Korean and Japanese culture are ruthless when it comes to behavioral mistakes, even when they come from teenagers. My sister got kicked out a Japanese high school and was forbidden to see her friends from that school (even talking to them on the phone) because she smoked a cigarette ONCE at home. All teenagers do dumb things because their brains are rapidly developing. It causes them to take bigger risks. I'm not saying it's an excuse, but it's an explanation. If the worst thing you did as a teen was troll someone online, I consider that a win. There's so much pressure on these young people in the industry to be perfect. This boy can't even cry about it without feeling guilty because crying wouldn't be manly. I honestly feel so bad for him and others like him. In the West, people build whole careers based on their misbehavior, yet they aren't even allowed to be human and have flaws. I don't know about you, but flaws make a person as much him/herself as their virtues. It makes me like a person more. Why would you love someone that's perfect? You'll feel inadequate all the time. (Sorry for the long rant, those of you who read till the end)

please read the pinned comment! :) there was a misunderstanding with this, it's something that supposedly happened when taeyong was really really young and SM made him apologize because it was easier for him - when the "scandal" came to light, he had just debuted so to clear it up, he apologized even though he hadnt done a thing. Poor thing. taeyong is such a warm hearted guy, even though he looks really cold on the outside because of his face, he's kind and attentive with his members. :) i've been in the fandom for 2 years already, he's a really good leader. also this: The rumour about him scamming and any other rumours is false, but its true he is selling gundam toy but when the buyer receive it some parts are not as good as the buyer predicted (because of the packaging some part are broken) so he wanted a refund and then taeyong did give him the money. And the part which taeyong curse is true too but its not one side only, taeyong curse because the other person curse at taeyong first so its a quarrel thing happen online between buyer and seller. Fyi, he is in middle school when this thing happen so he is still doesnt know how to be a seller but he did a good thing for giving the buyer a refund money but this buyer took the opportunity to spread rumour about taeyong scam him which is not true at all. And: SM made taeyong apologize probably because, just like t-ara, NamTae and a lot of other idols, people wouldn't want to believe what their companies said because they were already against him.

First of all, I'm 24 yo girl loving all sm groups. Specially exo and nct. I came to know about TY when it was 2014. I cried watching this boy cried like that. It's upsetting that SM made him apologize just because of some rumors and then more rumors are created. It's upsetting that they didn't handle the situation professionally and actually look into what happened. SM only cares about their image and cares about the rumors but not the idols themselves. It's also upsetting about how people hate on others and start false rumors. People assume things and start rumors. I've done a lot of shit when I was young. I worried my parents, my teachers. I was really lonely and scared back then, because I thought people won't ever like me anymore although I regretted what I did and what I went through. I was a horrible person and I never wished anybody had to spend time with me. I was suffering mental illness (they didn't diagnose me with depression, to be specific) since I was a little girl. Eventually I even tried to commit suicide at age of 15, luckily failed (or rather I wasn't brave enough), because in the past I was constantly lying to everyone, to my classmates, parent, people on the internet about terrible things. I've done so many bad things, mainly in the internet... And then NCT's existence was announced. And I learned about who Lee Taeyong is. It's amazing how similar we are. We even share our birthday. He actually kind of gave me courage to say sorry to everyone and... I don't know. He just kind of makes me a better version of myself. And I'll be grateful to him till the end of my days.
