As a Quest Pro owner, and many other HMD over the years. I'm very impressed with the Clarity and image quailty of the Quest Pro, it feels like a next gen headset with those lenses and QD panels. I have some Through The Lens Videos on my channel with a 4090.

Do you have it connected with a link cable? & did you max it out at 1.7 super sampling in Oculus desktop app?

Yes I have videos on my channel in DCS and ACC with 1.7x, 500Mpbs encode, 3616 encode width with maxed in game settings.

@@ntme9 Yes, though it gets even better... You can set it to run at 72hz like the Quest 2. 72hz without reprojection > 45fps reprojected to 90, or even 60 reprojected to 120! In the absolute worst case, you can go 36fps reprojected to 72hz, but I would save that for the most extreme situations where you aren't worried about quickly moving or enjoying something -- think something like Microsoft Flight Simulator. For something like DCS or il2 -- 72hz or 80hz if you can manage a frame rate above those...

Not sure how you pulled it off but the G2 actually looks more fuzzy than the Q2. Which is not the case.

I agree! G2 is definitly better than Q2 about clarity. But it was very hard to shoot G2. I think that because of the G2's small sweet spot and sensitive eye box(?). I think I took shoots over ten times same scene for each device. Especialy G2 was the hardest one. I'll think about how to capture G2's screen properly. The small 'E' and green line at the bottom of the text scene said that G2 is clearer than Q2.

It's because he's using zooming in on the video digitally instead of optically(physical zoom). All your seeing is the limitations of his cameras sensor, not the actual screen clarity. When you want to show the clarity differences in through the lens videos, you need optical zoom to maintain clarity.

This is definitely right. TTL is not sophisticated way to compare lenses and it can't give you real VR image quality, experience. But this limitations affect all clips in this video. Therefore, it will be meaningful to compare devices only in this video. I hope know accurate(and not too much expensive) method checking HMD's lense.

Great video. I have the Reverb G2 and Quest Pro and since getting the Pro, I will never use my G2, or any fresnel lens headset again, the visual clarity is superb. What was going on with the Aero through the lens though, it looked the worst of the three in the images but is obviously much better in practice. I have seen some through the lenses with the Aero that look amazing. Is it harder to capture through the lens with the headset?

I have the Aero and the G2 and there is no comparison. Sure G2 is almost as clear in its little sweet spot, but the Varjo sweet spot is 97% of the headset.

maybe you can give me your experience here. can you compare the vertical field of view from the aero to the ps5vr2? people complain about the aeros vfov saying that it would even be an insult for a 500 dollar headset, but its a 999 dollar headset but they say the same about the ps5vr2 vfov. i only ever tried the ps5vr2 for vr, never any other headset and i can very well live with that vfov but is the aero the same, or way worse?

The way I wear my Quest Pro I can get considerably higher FOV as i rest the lenses gently on my eye sockets! I've flipped the rear pad to do this and wear it very high at the back and very very low at the front. No light leaks around my nose, & thst's without lightblocker rubber!

you state that the quest pro has better colors and black levels than the G2 but in you side by side glare test comparison the G2 has much better black level? I had Quest pro recently and was disappointed with black levels even with local dimming activated

If you felt that way in comparison, it's because I'm not good at taking videos. 😿 Sorry. IMHO Quest Pro has better black level. If you're not satisfied with local dimming, I think OLED panel products will be right for you.

@@lesser-vr oled is my conclusion too. I’ve got the vive pro. I tried hp reverb couple years ago and last week quest pro. But choose to keep the vive because I didn’t feel the quest pro or reverb was a worthy successor. I was impressed with the clarity though of the quest pro and the oculus airlink performance

As you mentioned, the g2 is the wired device and has no artifacts. The Quest Pro's video does have artifacts, but it also boasts a wide eyebox. I believe that many people might perceive better quality on the Quest Pro due to its larger eyebox.

The Quest Pro is fantastic…. Buuuuuut there are some artifacts.. I don‘t know how you call the small stepps where the line should be straight. On the Reverb the picture is absolutely breathtaking but the sweetspot is extremely small so you can‘t look around and have to turn your head around to loom around, where on the Pro you can look around. I‘m torn between the two as the artifacts are really bothering me… And I see the pixelmatrix on the Pro where there is none at all on the Reverb…

Don't you notice the compression of the Quest Pro compared to the DP Aero?

I noticed it, and not just in Aero. However, the difference is not significant for me. I prefer the better black levels produced by the local dimming in the Quest Pro. I am aware that the Aero also has mini-LED with 2,000 dimming zones. If the Aero had local dimming as well, I believe it would look even better.

This test unfortunately does not match reality, clearly your camera is not capturing the image to its full capacity, the G2 is infinitely superior in sharpness than the Q2.

@@lesser-vr 250Mbps(actually 288Mbps) was limitation of very old version. There was the process to limit bitrate. But it was vanished in PC app v24 or v25. Currently max bitrate of wired Link is 960Mbps. We can't input over 500 in debug tool normally, but we can copy & paste. This is the graph of data transfer rate on 955Mbps. Graph shows that the bitrate is 120MB/s = 960Mb/s. i.imgur.com/JzrBnVh.jpg We can see the difference in image quality easily if we look at complex part of image. Complex, dark, many movement or etc. There is difference even over 500Mbps. This was confirmed by Watson, who was involved in the development of Link at Meta. For example, if we look at the front slope of the mountain on the left in Link's home environment, we can notice that at 250Mbps it's very blurry and noisy, but as we increase the bitrate, it becomes clearer and clearer. This is through the lens image of that. Actually we can see bigger difference than this image. i.imgur.com/TUMVvot.png The debug tool's bitrate is applied in realtime, so it's easy to test. 100Mbos, 250Mbps, 500Mbps, 900Mbps... let's try. Of course, how much the bitrate increases also depends on the graphics card's capabilities. High spec Nvidia GPU can get 960Mbps.

HOW IT IS POSSIBLE ?! Are you ok ?! I have HP reverb , and i can SAY 110% SURE, that quest PRO have better black color . Much more better. But in your tests Hp reverb is like OLED screens look like. IT IS FAKE ! HP reverb black color is blue, grey, and other BUY sure not BLACK !
