If she cared about her daughter just being ALIVE so much, then why the hell didn't she go see her when she was dying from her disease? It's clear she doesn't love her and is just manipulating her, to use her for her own needs. Having a daughter also is better for her to keep control. The mother is manipulative and self centered, regardless of her past. Yes, she could have suffered, but frankly the fact that she didn't ever visit her shows how little she cared really. We don't know everything, but with the information at this point, regardless of her past she's clearly not doing this for anyone else but her own selfishness.

Dramas like this one needed to re-watch in order to notice all the small details left here and there; many scenes have had multiple layers to them. Like the Emperor pierce the armor with his arrow scene: On the surface, it interpreted as a warning sent by the Emperor to the Chief Princess that her life had always been within his grasp, as well as telling Fan Xian that he granted Xian's wish by applying a capital punishment against a member of the royal family. (Execution and banishment were both considered capital punishments.) But in a deeper meaning, the very act of piercing a full body armor with a single arrow, it implied that the Emperor was a master-level cultivator.

Furthermore, another tidbit that could easily missed was the moment when the Emperor asked if Fan Xiao was also there to plead for the Chief Princess. While it was fleeting, I noticed the trembling fingers on the Emperor’s right hand. Perhaps, that was an indicative of how much the Emperor didn’t want to be disappointed if Fan Xiao was there for the same reason as the Crown Prince. Let’s not forget the look the Emperor bestowed on the Crown Prince after the Fan Xiao asked the Emperor to punish the Chief Princess. Oh the look of disgust, IMO

I really love that this drama is one of the shows that's about the realities of being human, humans aren't 'villains vs heroes' like in some fairy tales, but just human beings driven by different motivations/goals/circumstances/backgrounds etc. We can judge some behavior with laws or our own moral codes, but overall I enjoy shows that explore all the facets of the human spectrum :)

For the actors of this series are impressive and impeccably good. Each actors brings out different flavours to their characters. There is no competition BUT IT IS HOW THEY DELIVER THE GOODS. Yinrui’s character is vile and cunning and executed her part as an actor really very well. Why? As a viewer, SHE REALLY MADE ME MAD and RETALIATE. She is that good. Fan Xian has this aura of calmness, hilarious, sincere and definitely sure of himself. The Emperor either it cracks me up and I always have this feeling of honour, respect, his outlook in life, his cleverness as a Ruler. is so cool and dignified.

Well, this is interesant. A male lead who loves her but sacrifice his feelings for his principles and his word before to met her . Maybe are more of these characters but this is unusual for me after so many c-dramas. Usually they put first the girl, and in this case, she is given more for him than he. And that Chief Princess, she can try to justified herself but is still the fact of selfshiness and a lot of ego, and for her last words she looks to be impliying that she did it also for a men that she loves.

I think Li Yunrui is a horrible person and her way of caring for Wan'er is twisted but while she pored her feelings out, I can still feel a semblance of a mother's love. Maybe, she isn't a complete monster. Very curious who this mad woman is in love with Some might think Wan'er is powerless and innocent to a fault but I think there is so much to love about her. Loneliness is harrowing and very scary, once you find someone worthy of loving, all you want is to hold on to it forever, so im so proud of her undying loyalty to FX. I think Wan'er is to simple for FX character.I could be wrong,but Si Lili or even her mom seems better suited for FX complex character. I thought CP was secretly in love with Wan'er,but it's her mom he is in love with.

I think her simplicity might be to act as a counterfoil to ML and many other character's cunning, ruthlessness and complexity. She's a reminder that even in the midst of snakes, simple goodness can flourish. She's the complete opposite of her mother.

@@jasmineflower7115 No i didn't forget and I agree with his tactics 100% - what i CANT' stand is his lying to Wan'er about her brother's death AND about him "considering" the feelings of a woman he is supposed to love and then going and doing exact opposite. His principles/ love for a dead guy are more important to him than "the love of his life". And it is portrayed as funny and romantic- it is not. He is just as much of a lying snake as all the others.
