About my translation from 3:33~ Many people have pointed out that my translation for “tehepero” wasn’t accurate. I’m very sorry about using an offensive word. I didn’t know it had such a strong meaning. Since tehepero is a Japanese term, I had trouble finding right word for it, so instead, I wrote the major definition for “xp” (which i found on the internet). I’m sorry for confusing you guys.
@ValkyrieTiara4 жыл бұрын
You wouldn't "translate" XP as "retarded" either though. It's more like "yuck" or "dislike". I don't know who taught you the word "retarded" but it's most common use is a derogatory word for people born with mental disabilities. It's generally considered crass (at best) to use casually.

@@ValkyrieTiara I've personally never seen XP used for "yuck" or "dislike". I've always seen it used in an embarrassing or awkward situation, kind of like saying "I realize I'm an idiot and I'm laughing at myself as well.". For me it's the same as XD just a bit goofier (which could possibly be construed as "retarded"). Edit: In fact, Urban Dictionary substantiates my understanding of it and is probably where the translator got their definition from. www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=XP

2:28 - So one thing I really love about this stream where Korone added the nose is that for those of us who are old enough to remember when the internet really started taking off in the USA around the time AOL started to become a household name around 1993-1994 or so, smileys / emoticons as they were referred to then typically did have the nose as part of them. For example the standard :) smile was typically :-). But as time went on the noses started getting dropped off for the sake of expediency. So it's really fascinating to me to watch someone from another country discover this emoticon and then take it backwards through it's evolution and put the nose back.

It was something like Korone was trying to define the term “pikipiki” in english (its pmuch a sound effect meaning angry or intense) and decided to message Coco on how to translate it. Coco, being Coco, translated it as “pissed off” in english which of course Korone said aloud. After Korone seemed to think it was a bit too extreme a translation and typed that I LOVE YOU wall to reassure she wasn’t pissed off with the audience. Of course, I dont know japanese and am just goin by their reactions a d a few chat translators so I could be completely wrong And Korone just wanted to send good vibes...

Theli mega 2 cases. How many times have English streamers been crucified for trivial stuff? Have you ever seen a large streamer’s twitch chat? It’s toxic and unwelcoming at a lot of times. Even in Vtuber streams, some of the English comments are westerners asking the Vtuber to do something or bringing up other Vtubers (which is heavily frowned upon). Also it’s kind of rude when you think that these Vtubers are financially supported primarily by the Japanese fans through super chat. There are English super chats but you don’t see them often. We can watch Vtubers because they continue to get support from their Japanese fanbase. Another point is that most English viewers watch translation videos so even though we continue to watch their content, it’s not actually supporting the Vtuber channels directly. The most you could take from it is that translation vids provide exposure to overseas viewers. We are not actually doing anything to support the Vtuber other than watch reuploaded clips that they don’t gain anything from. I’d also like to point out that the 2 cases you brought up were a case of a few bad apples in the bunch. Most of the JP viewers did not care that Towa spoke to a boy, and only a few of the players were really upset that she wanted to play with the pro. You can’t group the entire JP fanbase together because a few of them are assholes. If you really think about it, you are doing the exact same thing that the people who criticized Towa and Aqua did by blowing up something trivial. You just stereotyped an entire community because a couple of them did an oopsie. Say what you want about the JP fanbase, but at least they don’t insult the English viewers by calling them “disgusting”.
