Woah how did you identify all of these? Sadly I’ve never heard of most of them and it’s times like this when I really hate how horrible of an education I’ve received. It’s been driving me mad lately because throughout school I always had amazing grades and everyone called me smart but all along I felt like it wasn’t enough and that I was missing something. Lately I’ve been very much noticing how bad the quality of my education was but nobody around me understands how I could be not satisfied with my intelligence or education
@dylanfield7098 Жыл бұрын
Sorry about that rant, I’ve created a list with all these and any others from other comments and am starting with I Am A Cat. Thank you so much for posting all this I know I kinda freaked out at first because of the song and how I didn’t know the references but at the same time having all of these here is a lifeline or a reminder of what I used to want. Would you happen to know more of these types of works?

I think that all of these songs is about how education and reading can promote free thought and break ‘brain washing’. All of these songs are about thinking for yourself and coming to your own conclusion not just following along with what the crowd tells you to do. I really like the line “should I be alive or should I be dead? Let’s decide in a democratic way!” Because that line is DEFINITELY about human rights. Honestly there’s so much in all these songs it would probably take ten million years to decipher it all.
@明石湊3 жыл бұрын

Am I the only one who appreciates the *staggering* amount of literary references in this song??! This is the first time I've seen so many in a Vocaloid song! Incredible, so incredible! "I think, therefore I'm troubled" shook me. A really *really* good Vocaloid song!
@chronoteddy361410 жыл бұрын
The phrase "I think therefore I'm troubled" is a parody of the "famous" phrase "I think therefore I am", or "cogito ergo sum" in Latin, but, I'm sorry, I don't remember who said it...
@marchdarkenotp33467 жыл бұрын
It's by Rene Descartes, who also wrote the "Discourse on Method," which also appears in the song.

they also say “god has died” which is a quote from a german philosopher, iirc

Ok, I think I've figure out the meaning of this song, but it's only a personal interpretation, so I could be wrong: I think that this song and another song by the same artist, Propaganda, are connected. This song is about someone who has her own independent thoughts and beliefs like any other person, but then she began to notice her beliefs being stepped on by propaganda, calling her and anybody else who believed in the same thing as her an idiot. She began to think that she was an idiot for not following that propaganda, so she joined it and preached what she didn't believe in because she was afraid of looking stupid and being wrong with her actual beliefs. However, since every propaganda goes against another, a bunch of other groups began to call her an idiot yet again for believing in something they didn't, and still not wanting to be called that, she joined all of them and began to preach one thing and then another, always contradicting herself because she joined so many different propagandas that don't all believe in the same thing. In the end she didn't know what she believed in because she couldn't think independently anymore, so she just went insane and did whatever she wanted with no morals or beliefs. But since she was satisfied with that, and with propaganda you can't ever be satisfied (since you always need to find something to rise against), she killed herself. I think the books are supposed to be a metaphor, because they promote independent thought, yet there's always an 'important' detail and 'unimportant' detail in them and so on, it doesn't let you decide that on your own, so it act doesn't do anything

A couple of other 'references' I noticed were at 2:17, the opening of Shakespeare's Hamlet, and 3:14 where Apology is the speech Socrates gave in his defense (the word apology in this case is more like defense, because of the meaning of the original Greek word) at his trial, probably as recorded by Plato. 2:20 is also from Apology, although you can't see much of it. This song is really intriguing, but I just can't figure it out. >.< Although, I guess that makes sense because probably the reason I find it interesting is because it so complex.
@fridafiddy833010 жыл бұрын
The cup of poison is probably also an allusion to Socrates. He was sentenced to death by drinking hemlock because he wouldn't renounce his ideas.

Rip, looks like I'll be listening to this on repeat-- ''Ningen Shikkaku''/''Human Disqualification'', '' I am a cat'' et cetera. XD Amuses me, anyway. (Also I'm not that involved with Danganronpa so those references I didn't catch if there were any.)

I’ve been listening to the songs from this series since probably middle school but only now do I truely feel like I’m beginning to understand what they are about. The masses accept what the government or church tells them is right even if it’s unethical or wrong while the voices of the people that speak up get ignored because no matter what they say and no matter who says it the world won’t change. Though I feel like that’s only scratching the surface of these complicated songs with their complicated issues.
@vocaloidrehberi39639 жыл бұрын
Just adding a few literary references of the song XD 0:49 after ongs lyrics mention utopia, theer appears text which mentons concept of Arcadia and utopia, and Thomas More's "Utopia" 2:18 there is a haiku by Kobayashi Issa: "suzumenoko sokonoke sokonoke ouma ga tooru" (young sparrows get out of the way, get out of the way, a great horse is coming) ... maybe "move to the side, like that dissappear" part of lyrics is also refering partly to the haiku... maybe... APOLOGY/by Platon: an account of Sokrates' trial where he was judged for his philospophic discourses. Its pages can be seen at 2:19 and 3:14 Also lyrics "lets gulp down a cup of poison" at 3:14 refer to Sokrates' trial since later he had to drink a poison as death penalty and some other western literary references-adding just in case some don't know them: 1:19 ego cogito ergo fatigo, parody of Descartes' "ego cogito ergo sum" (replacing I am part with troubled) 1:35 God is dead; famous words of Nietzsche 1:39 "should I be alive, even shoud I be dead" part of lyrics is from Hamlet. So it can also be translated as "to be or not to be"; japanese translated it either as "yo ni aru, yo ni aranu..."(older translations) or "ikiru beki kamo shinu beki kamo"(in modern translations)
@vocaloidrehberi39639 жыл бұрын
+Vocaloid Rehberi also 0:42 "tonneru nukereba/if we escaped from tunnel" might be referencing to Yasunari Kawabata's Yukiguni... The phrase "Konkyou no nagai tonneru nukeru to yukiguni de atta/ Escaping through the long tunnel at the border, there was the snow country before me" Though I'm not certain about whether it is really referenced... just guessing :P

+ 0:31 - Lives full of shame (likely referencing No Longer Human by Dazai Osamu- "I lived a life full of shame") 0:35 - Sink the slanted sun (I might be wrong but maybe referencing "The Setting Sun," also by Dazai) 0:36 - Rolling with laughter and turning into clowns 0:38 - Human disqualification (Both likely referencing No Longer Human again) 0:39 - Goodbye (the lyrics say "sayonara" but dazai's last book (that was unfinished) is entitled "goodbye" or "guddobai") 0:55 - Let's get a lemon bomb (I might be wrong but maybe it's referencing Lemon by Kajii Motojirou) 1:47 • To be • Not to be (Another Hamlet reference)

Some book reference that I get "I am a cat" (wahagai wa neko de aru) - Natsume soseki Kokoro - Natsume soseki "No longer human" (Ningen shikkaku) - osamu dazai Setting sun (shayo) - Osamu dazai Lemon - Kajii motojiro Yamanashi - Miyazawa kenji "Don't deferated by rain" (ame ni mo makezu) - miyazawa kenji Hamlet - william shakespeare The title that are marked by " " is said in the lyrics (although I'm not sure if she says taiyou or shayou so I didn't mark it)

I just noticed something. In 'Faust', it's stated that if Faust was so pleased with what the devil gave him in life that he wanted that moment to stretch on forever, then he would die. This song contains the lyric, "I was satisfied, so I'll disappear," as a lyric. Another song in the Literature Girl Insane series, Dance Dance Decadance, has Goethe, the writer of Faust, as the odd name out among the philosophers. Wonder what this means?
